RANK THE ALBUMS OF THE HIP HOP HEAVYWEIGHTS

  • the biggest surprise to me is step in the arena nearly always being runner-up on everyones gang starr lists..best all round lp for me.

midnight marauders vs low end theory is the toughest one to judge of all..

  • 1). Awesome Thread

2). This made me realized that I really haven't heard that many albums/remember 'em,, even in my "hip-hop heyday" of 92-98 (Yeah I got something random like the Big-L lp in my collection, but aside from "Put it On" I really don't remember shit). I guess I'm definetly more of a 12'' singles dude . I think I hear about 3-5 albums a year.

3). I think you dudes put "BE" at the bottom just to rile me up.

4). It's strange to compare "Slaughtahouse" to "Sittin' On Chrome". Two huge departures in style for Ace, but I think I gave Sittin' on Chrome way more love. I actually still bump those 12's from that album now.

Can we get some mo' down south rap entries, plaese? I know we got some Rap-a-lot, Swishahouse, Cash Money, No Limit etc. fans out thurr. What it do...

  • noznoz 3,625 Posts
hmm... phill i respect your desire to learn about this shit, but it's difficult because a lot of the crews you mention aren't particularly album oriented in the same way a de la soul is. and as for rap-a-lot, most of the great albums were one offs (or one of two offs) here are a few more obviously consistent album artists:

    Geto Boys Related[/b]

    1. Geto Boys - Grip It! On That Other Level

    2. Willie D - Controversy

    3. Scarface - The Fix

    4. Geto Boys - We Can't Be Stopped

    5. Scarface - Mr. Scarface Is Back

    Devin[/b]

    1. Devin - Just Tryin' To Live

    2. Odd Squad - Fadanuf For Everybody (real tough call on those two though, they'd probably change on a day to day basis)

    3. Devin - The Dude

    4. Facemob - The Other Side Of The law (does this count? i guess so)

    5. Devin - To The Extreme

    South Park Coalition[/b]

    1. K-Rino - Stories From The Black Book

    2. Ganksta Nip - Psychic Thoughts

    3. Point Blank - Prone To Bad Dreams

    4. Terrorists - Never Business, Always Personal

    5. Street Military - I Don't Give A Damn EP

    Other (89-94) RAL shit[/b]

    1. Convicts - s/t (hands down)

    2. Big Mello - Bone Hard Zaggin

    3. OG Style - Know How To Play Em (you'd really enjoy this, borderline REAL SHIT)

    4. 5th Ward Boyz - Ghetto Dope

    5. Seagram - The Dark Roads

    UGK[/b]

    1. Ridin' Dirty

    2. Super Tight

    3. Dirty Money

    4. Southern Way EP

    5. Too Hard To Swallow

    TI[/b]

    1. Trap Muszik

    2. Urban Legend

    3. I'm Serious

    4. That PSC album, i guess, even though i haven't heard it, but i'm sure it's worse than everything else and i need something else to fill out the list

    Ludacris[/b]

    1. Back For The First Time

    2. Word Of Mouf

    3. Chicken N Beer

    4. Red Light District

(that's a chronological desecnt, dude just keeps getting worse, huh? i've never heard incognegro)

    2nd Generation Cash Money ('99 -> Present)[/b]

    1. BG - Choppa City In The Ghetto

    2. Lil Wayne - Tha Carter

    3. Lil Wayne - Block Is Hot

    4. Juvenile - 400 Degreez

    5. Hot Boys - Let 'Em Burn

(although i don't know how accurate it is to include tha carter, maybe i should consider that third gen, but that'd require another list, so nah)

    Mystikal[/b]

    1. Let's Get Ready (is that an unorthadox choice?)

    2. s/t (or Mind Of Mystikal, i guess)

    3. Ghetto Fabulous

    4. Unpredictable

    5. Tarantula

for no limit poke around my website for when i was writing about that shit a few months back (http://www.cocaineblunts.com/blog/2005_08_01_cocaineblunts_archive.html). the thought of even trying to make heads or tails of that immense catalog ever again, especially right now at 1 am makes my head hurt.

i don't know a damn thing about swishahouse.

and frankly, i've wasted too much time in this thread as it is.

What i really want to know is:

    2. Illmatic
    3. Stillmatic
    4. The Lost Tapes
    5. I Am.

    4. Terrorists - Never Business, Always Personal
    5. Street Military - I Don't Give A Damn EP

What NO South Park Psycho. After a few listens that one grew on me. Got that Psychic Thoughts EP but haven't listened to it.

Off that topic...I listened to a few of my Gang Starr albums today and I have to say Guru sucks. I hate the intro on Hard To Earn or Daily Operation whatever it was on where he is bitching about the fans. IMO if Gang Starr was just Guru it would be terrible. Best thing on Daily Operation is Jeru on I'm the Man. Everything else LYRICALLY on there sucked to me.

    Someone tell me...

1 Del - no need for alarm
    2 Casual - fear itself
    3 Souls - 93 till infinity
    4 Domino - physical funk
5 Del - I wish my brother george was here (......uhoh)

That's a different Domino from the dude who produces/manages Hiero acts. Other than that, this list mirrors mine. Or mine mirrors this one. Whichever.

Shit, my slips showing (flunk tucks flaps back, adjusts sock).......thanks enk
