Never seen anything like that, ever.
If your Sunday league side defended like that, there'd have been actual bloodshed at half-time. It was every cliche anyone's ever heard about Brazilian defenders made flesh, and then blown up to the size of the Cristo Redentor. The crowd in the bar where I was couldn't believe it; "We're five up against Brazil after half an hour..?"
ppadilha called it, btw. I doubt there's much comfort in that, though.
The next best thing to Argentina winning is Brasil losing... especially in such a humiliating way ;)
I believe that shit is karma for Brasileros cheering for Germany against Argentina in 1990 - did I mention Argentinos love to hold grudges hehehe
are you asking me to root against Argentina?
Thats the dilema I assume most Brazzucas will have, no? Cheer for Germany or Argentina - dont know if they can.stomach either. But I think deep down if I was Basilero Id cheers for Germany to smash Argentina - at least they save some face thst way ;)
Im very nervous atm about our game against Holland. The team needs to fire up or we could get Spain'd. Seriously I havent been able to eat 'de los nervios'. This world cup shit aint good for the health.
You know your squad must be dire if a dude like that is a nailed on starter. It's kinka fucked up that that's the level Brazilian football has fallen to. Still a fantastic WC doe.
I got done over in the sweepstakes! Serves me for being so smug about the draw.
What a mad game. I couldn't really believe Brazil were a Neymar + 10 team, on paper they've still got a lot of quality but shit... Hulk, Fred, Maicon, Gustavo - so poor. Don't want to be a downer but we've only got 3 games left, I can't deal.
I honestly called a German win last night before kickoff.
Only Neymar has had any ideas, the rest of the squad are pure Meh.
Maicon. Didn't get a kick when he was with City, rhaped by Bale before that.
Hulk, was mocked by City fans and wanted to complain when they started singing "You're not incredible"
Wasn't the goalie a QPR makeweight? You will not do Ze Jormans like that.
I been thinking about the delta between this and other WCs.
82 was the best for face-melt games (Paolo Rossi 3-2 vs Brasil, that FRA/GER game) and possibly the last great team - the Brasil of Zico, Eder, Falcao, Socrates.
86 had demonstrably the best player by miles in Maradona, and it was a privilege to see that in live.
These tournaments and all others had special goals and moments.
Favourites include the opening Narey goal for Scotland v Brasil, the Uruguay player getting sent off in the opening minutes for foul on Strachan, England semi in 90, South Korea opening 30yd stunner vs ARG, ten man Senegal beating ARG, etc etc.
This WC has lacked the truly thrilling games, truly great player performances, the truly top, top players generally failing to live up to billing and a truly great team.
It's plus points have been the overturning of old orders - Spain v NED, last night, the emergence of old also-rans stepping up a gear - Algeria, CRC, Colombia, Chile.
The maturing of USA from novelties to serious players.
But what's made this one so enjoyable is largely about peripheral circumstance. The loc and the people involvement, the way the Internet has impacted, the TV and pub friendly schedule, the occasional bite and assault drama.
This WC has not had to rely on football for its greatness.
I'm guessing Holland will win, barring any hardcore heroics (good bandname) from Messi. Who's not been on fire this Cup.
I predict.... 2 - 1 Holland
At least I hope so, staying up late watching these matches is great, but the baby does not give a toss about our reduced sleep and or WC madness, so he still wakes up early. Bastard.
Nothing will ease this for Brazil. They will hate Germany with a passion just like they hated France all these years after 98.
If we get a Dutch win today - it'll be the best third place play-off game ever!
The internets are saying there's been looting and bus burning going on in Rio.
On paper Argentina should beat Holland as they have the better squad imho. But if Robben and RvP turn up and Messi & co don't then that's all arbitrary. It was kinda obvious that if Germany got it together they would walk over a weakened and poor Brasil, but this game is much tougher to call.
Would Ozil be the 2nd place least deserving WC winner after Nando?
he's had a good world cup.... and probably gave up 3-4 clear shots on net in yesterday's game alone to make the extra pass leading to goals. sure, they were the same passes he makes in a close game that make me pull my hair out, but..... he's had a foot in most of germany's goals (we call them "hockey assists") and him and the machine-like philip lahm require full time attention, which has spread out defenses and allowed the german triangle to basically roll down field.
Pato has been a joke of a footballer for at least two years now, even more useless than Fred. Lucas is overhyped, like a poor man's Theo Walcott. Brasil had a good striker that they could've called up, his name is Diego Costa. That was another one of Felip├úo's fuck ups. His stupid "Scolari family" cronyism mentality also kept him from calling up Filipe Luis and Paulo Miranda from Atl├®tico de Madrid, who were the central defender and right-back of the best defense in Europe last season, and he also left out the best brazilian goalie by a mile, Diego Alves. Coutinho was another option Felip├úo chose to ignore.
Scolari had already announced he wouldn't stay in the national team regardless of what happened at the World Cup. Not that the coaches they're talking about for replacement would be much better.
also, ignore the sensationalist stories about looting and rioting. One article I read claimed there was rioting in Brasilia but in fact police had arrested one drunk dude who smashed a tv at a bus station.

Should I take this to that drunk thread? Because I'm drunk.
Not much smashy smashy happening here, just general drunkenness. The hangover comes tomorrow.
Fuck Felipão and his motivational bullshit.

Fred though.
Surely there's better available than that dude.
Also, Ozil should have made it 8. Shocking finish.

Fred's WC Highlight reel.
"Hey guys! Don't worry I got this!!"
"I'ma fall over"
"alley oop"
"Tah Dah!"
"Good game Fred"

Pato and Lucas Moura.
How is it that Scolari hasn't quit yet?

It's incredible how overrated Hulk is. I have never seen him be anything other than greedy and ordinary.
