    Thanks, theres a new record store in my area that had a grand opening with most of the records priced at $3. Best LA area digging I've been able to be a part of for a while. I was looking at everyone elses piles with envy.

    no its a US press, Blue note released 4 Live at Montreux LP's in '74 The other three are Marlena Shaw, Bobbi Humphrey and Ronnie Foster. ( Most notably, people seem to look for the Marlena Shaw with its fantastic version of "Woman of the Ghetto". It also is the only other LP in the series I've seen.)

    The Hutcherson is more a spiritual outing and not as fusiony as his San Francisco and Montara LP's. It's a great listen.

    Plastic Ono Band (cool story behind this) Last Friday I found this John Lennon Book at the flea market ($1), and it mentioned the signif of it to John and how it was Like him stripping himself of his Beatles identity. Anyway, it made me really wanna give a second listen to the album. The NEXT day, I go to my local music shop to pick up a replacement speaker and BAM, right there in the $1 bin. Record only, a little beat, but I thought that was pretty fuckin cool.

    sorry for the crumby pic. ninteenth whole was sealed, just cracked that bitch open and am enjoying the shit out of it. i didn't realize that this is basically the players on grant green live at the lighthouse sans grant green. best eastbound release.

    digging that albert record, better than the other one they put out. funkier drums, less horn rawk...

    fatback-took me too long to find a copy of this. it's one of those records that isn't exactly rare but is sort of hard to pull and is always overpriced when you see it at fairs and shops...

    Got to sift through a large jazz collection and pulled some long time wants. Nice clean lot of records, and he must have spent some time in England at one point. Batsumi was mailbox from SAfrica, the seller said it was vg and it 's spotless, doesn't usually go that way for me. The last set of records comes from the show in ottawa couple of weeks ago, the strut 100 guilted me into upping my re-ish Headless for an og, and glad I did: way better pressing. Jutta's a repop, anyone know when they re-ished some of the 1500 series? So's Tubby, anyone know about the Jasmine label?

    The New Presidents is San Diego power pop from '83. Pop Corn is an Italian exploito comp of covers including George Saxon's "Going Out Of My Head" (Thee Midniters' version is much better, IMO), which was included on Dusty Fingers.

    These were fleamarket finds. Finally minted up on the Mongo. The Van has arrangements and keyboard work by Dr. John and the Spyder has arrangements done by Dennis Coffey.

    Some recent highlights. Weirdly I've been finding better stuff at the local thrifts than at the flea market over the past several weeks. All but 5 of the LPs are $1 thrift store finds--nothing mind blowing (though I was pretty excited about finding my first Joe Bataan LP in the field) but WAY better than the usual chudpiles of Mantovani/Alpert/Streisand/Manilow/etc...




    And a handful of recent 45s from various sources:

    My favorite of these is the Howard Tate, which has grown on me with every listen. What else of his should I seek out? The Kenny Shepherd is a pretty cool mid-60s obscurity with an interesting R&B cover of "Runaway" on the flip. Don't usually get into rockabilly but that Gene Summers is one of the better examples I've ever heard. I looked into some of his other tunes and I think "Twixteen" had to be pretty uncomfortable even in the golden age of songs about 16 year old girls.

    Was heading up the Poconos for a wedding this past Saturday and couldn't help but stop at this [country ass] yard sale. Was surprised to find a French imported Grandmaster Flash & Furious Five LP. Self titled compilation from 1983, sugarhill label. 1$.
