Thanks, theres a new record store in my area that had a grand opening with most of the records priced at $3. Best LA area digging I've been able to be a part of for a while. I was looking at everyone elses piles with envy.
Why have I never seen that Bobby Hutcherson? Japanese press?
no its a US press, Blue note released 4 Live at Montreux LP's in '74 The other three are Marlena Shaw, Bobbi Humphrey and Ronnie Foster. ( Most notably, people seem to look for the Marlena Shaw with its fantastic version of "Woman of the Ghetto". It also is the only other LP in the series I've seen.)
The Hutcherson is more a spiritual outing and not as fusiony as his San Francisco and Montara LP's. It's a great listen.
I hope a few post up their finds.
I only got to spend a few, often interrupted, minutes digging. This is what I got.
Legendary Strutters in the room,
Mr Jeigh, Asprin, Delmont Fairchild
Notable Flea market, thrift and such find over the past couple weeks, nothing over $2:

Link Wray - Raw Hide/Dixie Doodle 45
The Who - Live at Leeds (with all 12 inserts)

Are You Experienced? Great shape 2nd pressing
Licensed to Ill LP (no cover, beat up, enjoyed the hell out of it)
Kool & The Gang - Good Times (drool)
Frank Zappa - Drowing Witch (In Vally Girl 12" cover)
The Kinks - Best of comp from Canada, early stuff, but includes Lola
The Kinks/ The Yardbirds - Greatest hits single LP
Donny Hathaway- Everything is Everything
Mongo Santamaria- El Bravo!
Dave Brubeck- A Place in Time
Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited (record only, decent shape)
Brazil 66- Crystal Illusions
Plastic Ono Band (cool story behind this) Last Friday I found this John Lennon Book at the flea market ($1), and it mentioned the signif of it to John and how it was Like him stripping himself of his Beatles identity. Anyway, it made me really wanna give a second listen to the album. The NEXT day, I go to my local music shop to pick up a replacement speaker and BAM, right there in the $1 bin. Record only, a little beat, but I thought that was pretty fuckin cool.
Quicksilver Messenger Service - Just For Love
Best of Guess Who - VG++ with Poster
Best of Buffalo Springfield
Best of Spirit
Sugarhill Gang-8th Wonder LP
Shut Downs and Hill Climbs (Promo) - a Liberty comp with 2 exclusive ventures songs (in America at least)
That's all I can remember right now
October has been good so far, happy hunting to all!
I didn't get to dig around too much either, but I did find this cool RnB private from the NW:
(not my pic)
And on a non-record show related tip, some dollar bin finds from today:
digging that albert record, better than the other one they put out. funkier drums, less horn rawk...
fatback-took me too long to find a copy of this. it's one of those records that isn't exactly rare but is sort of hard to pull and is always overpriced when you see it at fairs and shops...
The New Presidents is San Diego power pop from '83. Pop Corn is an Italian exploito comp of covers including George Saxon's "Going Out Of My Head" (Thee Midniters' version is much better, IMO), which was included on Dusty Fingers.
This batch was from the WESU record fair. The Richard Roundtree being produced by Eugene McDaniels.
And a handful of recent 45s from various sources:
My favorite of these is the Howard Tate, which has grown on me with every listen. What else of his should I seek out? The Kenny Shepherd is a pretty cool mid-60s obscurity with an interesting R&B cover of "Runaway" on the flip. Don't usually get into rockabilly but that Gene Summers is one of the better examples I've ever heard. I looked into some of his other tunes and I think "Twixteen" had to be pretty uncomfortable even in the golden age of songs about 16 year old girls.
Was heading up the Poconos for a wedding this past Saturday and couldn't help but stop at this [country ass] yard sale. Was surprised to find a French imported Grandmaster Flash & Furious Five LP. Self titled compilation from 1983, sugarhill label. 1$.
Sorry haven't figured out how to post pics from phone.
