I am ashamed at how weak my Roy Ayers game is.

I like all these, I'm not sure what I'd replace, but I'd want to "Pretty Brown Skin" somewhere in that mix

I was hesitating over this bad, overlooked little groove:

exactly, the exercise makes you realize just how rich his back catalog is

    Hey,

My top-5 Roy Ayers joints (in no particular order) are:

    -"Sweet Tears"
-"Baby You Give Me a Feeling"
    -"Good Vibrations"
    -"Pretty Brown Skin" (wifey-related)
    -"Mystic Voyage"

    Peace,

His top 10 would all be a tie. Couldn't even begin to narrow it down. I celebrate his entire catalog. Even that unreleased stuff from awhile back was banging.

    In no order:

    Everybody Loves The Sunshine
    Brawling Broads
    We Live In Brooklyn Baby
    The Third Eye
    Running Away

But ask me tomorrow and you'd probably get a different answer.

Not sure about the other four just yet, have to think on it, but #1 is Hey Uh What You Say Come On

    Seriously overlooked dancefloor scorcher.

It would be in my top ten, but only just. That doesn't take anything away from the obvious greatness of the track, but I prefer his pre disco, mid 70s stuff more. I ask the same question for half of the Tear to a Smile LP which seems to be waaaay overlooked IMO.

  • i wanna touch you baby
    i just keep on trying
    third eye
    the boogie back
    des nude soul

i could go on and on.

Last time I played that out another DJ called me a slut :necessary:
Maybe it's too well-known, played out or obvious, but I still love it.

the first two atlantic records are kinda cheesy. marred by herbie mann's involvement. i'm glad that he gave roy his big break but i am even gladder roy escaped herbie's hirsute, sweaty paws.

can a classic be legitimately called "played out"? i understand if the track becomes kinda popular and then gets played out during that cycle but i feel like u can get away with playing snippets of classics forever.

Although I have always loved the song, I could definitely go without ever hearing any part of Pete and CL's TROY played out ever again.
