The other morning I woke up to find a dumped mattress blocking my driveway.
A lot of people (or one very busy person) use my street for dumping.
I called the city before 7am and before 8am the crew was there picking up the mattress.
I went out and thanked the guys, called them saints, and offered them a drink. No hugs.

  • In Davis, Ca the government paid $1,000,000 to student protesters involve in the pepper spraying incident. I think I'd much rather have government money going to the garbage men who remove obstacles from private driveways than the people who block public walkways.

Here is a crazy thing. I like Sam Adams.
    There, I said it.
I remember your brother supported him (pre scandal), and I supported Dozono.
Sam had made bike riding safer in the city and has done a lot to calm traffic in neighborhoods.
I live in Cully and after years of total neglect he has brought traffic improvements to our neighborhood.
Parks have in our neighborhood have also increased.

I have a friend who is active on clean air/no coal trains. Smith is the only candidate who supports her movement, so I am supporting Smith to support her.

I totally understand why you support Hales, and years ago when my friends didn't like his connection to developers I supported him. I thought he was great until he quit, took a job lobbying the city and moved to Camas to dodge taxes. But besides that he only kinda sucks.

I have met with both candidates in the past few months. There was a stark contrast in style and knowledge. Jefferson is a mess, a charismatic liberal mess but a mess just the same. Charlie knows his stuff, doesnt need any learning curve to get to work and is personally a better listener. Following Sam Adams' reign morale in city government is very low. He has proven to be a distracted and often MIA leader. We need a good manager right now. Both candidates positions are not very different on major issues. I would advise voting for the better government leader.

Who here has shook the hand and / or hugged their garbage man!??

I once gave a small case of Gatorade to mine on a really hot fucking day. And gave bottled water on other hot days.

While I'm not sure about that ad. This one supposedly has been really effective in Ohio.

I've seen where people accuse this site as being Liberal?

I'm not sure Bain's successes outweigh their massive failures. Failures, of course, being relative due to Bain execs(Romney) making a fortune whether or not Bain's "investments" paid off. What was a failure to the workers of a destroyed company was still a success to Romney and his ilk.

And that is the issue, in my view. Romney didn't care about hurting workers. He cared about maximizing profits for himself, which is fine if we lived in a purely capitalistic society; We don't. I think this is a fair criticism of his tenure at Bain, and should give people pause in deciding whether Romney's work at Bain really qualifies him for the Presidency.

I said the ad has been really effective in Ohio. Nothing more.

I think that ad plus when Romney wrote "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt". It made a bunch of people in Ohio take notice. But we shall see...

  • I suppose that to truly be a soul strut image I shoulda said, "I'm shooked, shooked..."

Ehh. That's what you told me about Sam Adams.
Charlie has no credibility. He was not a great listener or manager on the city council. He lied about dodging Oregon taxes, he lied about lobbying the city.
He was a good with urban policy for the brief period he did his job at the city council.

I agree that Jefferson Smith will make a terrible mayor. I am only voting (not supporting) for him because he has aligned himself with my friends (not my) cause.

I did not vote for either (or Brady) in primary. With 27 candidates I can't imagine how these clowns got any votes. Oh, that's right, they were the serious candidates.

And don't get me started on this city council.

I hear this ad is affective in Colorado.

Now soulstrut is just as conservative as it is liberal.

You just keep getting more and more awesome.

Tell me more about how the students in Davis, CA were given money because they were merely blocking a public walkway.

Since the cite is open for traffic and not blocked, I will. They were demonstrating to lower the price of tuition, now they have accepted money from the university's fund that would have otherwise gone toward keeping tuition prices low and making the college more interesting.

I said that I wasnt upset about Sam Adams' affair. He was a much better candidate than Sho Dozono. As you said he hasnt been a total failure but the scandal took its toll, making him unable to function politically. I never cared but apparently lots of others did. I have close friends who work in the bureaus who say that Sam has been horrible at getting things done. They also know Charlie and think he will do a reasonably good job. When I met with him, I was incredibly impressed with his breadth of knowledge and his ability to think creatively. He made lots of very smart connections about how he could use his office effectively to help Portland Public Schools (my big issue) even when he has limited authority. Jefferson Smith did not impress with his lack of organization. He missed our first meeting because his staff didnt keep his schedule properly. Once we got in the same room he was fine to talk with. He's bright and has the right values. I am unconvinced that he would run the city well. I have to laugh that you would vote for him even when you agree with this statement. I could care less that Charlie moved to Vancouver. It will have no bearing on his governance.

Oh no mon friere, Romney is a financial guru. He would rent security fences and give his business to them. Fences are less maintainence than people. Ofcourse, you could get a job installing the custom fence.

    Frank,

Are you still in NY? All the cable news networks should be carrying it. NBC, ABC, CBS are carrying it. If you have CSPAN that will probably be the best way to see it, you won't have annoying kibitzing from talking heads. I am showing it starting at 6pm PST. That would be 9PM your time. I believe that its scheduled for 8PM Denver time (location of the debate).

    Hope this helps...
