Seriously? Aside from his cut of "Soul Man," this was always the weak link in the People catalog to me. I haven't played it in a couple of years though, and I definitely like a lot of soul stuff now that I wasn't feeling back then.
Seriously? That's one of my all time favourite soul albums. I played the 88 re-ish on Urban to death and still do and still have to find a real copy...

well the version of yaina is fucking hot and chile con carne or whatever it's called. i don't remember what the rest of the record is like though since i traded my copy to secret chimp many years ago. back when he was called doris the funkasaurus.

I copped this for $10 not long ago. Does it really go for over $50? I figured I got a deal at $10 but it's more like a $25-30 LP at best IMO. Still dope, tho. ("Queen") Esther Marrow is a reknowned gospel singer, and this appears to be her secular "coming out" record. One super funky track, "Thing's Ain't Right," and the rest is high-quality gospel crossover soul. Rock solid lineup with purdie, rainey, idris M, etc.

Why did you cross out Funky Nassau? That's heretical.

I love how with these threads, when someone creates a criteria, it's like everyone's just waiting to pounce on someone who says anything that might fall outside of it:
Oh my god, That's a $49.99 record and he said $50-100.

Except lots of us have bought these albums for well less than $50, sometimes from knowledgeable sellers who determine the worth to be, say, $20. Who is to say they are "wrong" in that value estimate? eBay?

What they said.
Beginning Of The End is only good for Funky Nassau
9th Creation has some good intros, but I'm not sure I like any of the songs all the way through.
Ernie Hines is a one tracker
Yaina is a bit too mellow for me. I'd take a Mongo Santamaria over that in a second.

It's not a total burner, but there are several very worthwhile tracks.
That's how Bam found his Skullsnaps ... for about the same price too
need a thumbs up graemlin for this one
Definitely not worth more than $20-30, but it's a nice LP! "Take It Slow", etc.

(1) I've seen it cheaper - WAY cheaper - than $50;
(2) I think that elpee was kinda LATE for a soul vocal group (1976?), which is probably why its' only decent.
