Essential Funk LP’s

I'm looking for recommendations on the funkiest shit ever recorded on LP. Examples of what I'm looking for:

Ruby Andrews -- Black Ruby (Zodiac)
Dillard Crume and the Soul Rockers (Alshire)
S.O.U.L. -- What is It? (Musicor); Can you Feel it? (Musicor)
Pazant Brothers -- Loose and Juicy (Vanguard)
James Brown -- Get On The Good Foot (Polydor)
Ike Turner -- A Black Man's Soul (Pompeii) this makes the list for "Getting Nasty" alone, even though there's other great tracks

No raregroove, late disco (unless it's something like Peace, Justice and Equality) modern soul bizzness. Just dirty and funky...and no 45's.

slight aside here... so many folks reference this album, but seem to forget about this'n

  • I know it's disco but Catch A Groove is the truth.
there is some might righteous disco 12's.

I also nominate anything the meters made on Josie and the first Kool And The Gang outing.

Most of the albums by Charles Wright and the Watts 103rd St. Rhythm Band were uneven, but In The Jungle, Babe and You're So Beautiful.

I'm gonna also cop a plea for Jan Jan by the Fabulous Counts.

    You really think so?

I think Together is the best start-to-finish listen:

yeah, this one would be perfect if it were not for those two songs with the added strings.

Rhythm Machine is a good Soul/Funk LP
James Brown ... every one of them on Polydor (pre-disco)
Sly Stone LPs (exclude the first one on Epic cause its less Funk)

umm... what about (not essential necessarily):

    Sound Experience - Dont Fight...
    Gwen McCrae - Rockin Chair
    Ghana Soul Explosion on Pickwick
    Experience Unlimited
    Larry T and the Family

Just, you wouldn't call the FIRST Earth Wind & Fire LP a funk record? Would you say it's more of an R&B record?
