This is the first (mens) world cup I have followed this closely.
Came to the game through women's collegiate play. When I started going to UP games Clive Charles was the coach. Players out of UP include Canadian stars Christine Sinclair, Sophie Schmidt (Saw both of them play in Portland last night). Also Shannon McMillan, Stephanie Lopez (Cox), Tiffeny Milbrett, Megan Rapinoe. Even though UP is a tiny college nearly every US pro soccer team has an alum playing.

Video from Nativo Sports Bar in Santa Teresa when Ruiz scored his header against the Italians...
Guess you have to be a facebook friend to see it as of yet. I'll try to remedy that. The bar footage is one thing. The street footage is a whole 'nother wild beast of an animal.

I'm back in ugly American-ville now. But yes, a blast was had.
That was the first time I ever went against the Italians and damn, it was worth it.
Too bad that in their next game Suarez chomped his team into the next round. But honestly, I've never seen the Italians look so horrible. Balotelli's rough up anyone in sight but then wince in pain at the nearest scrape of a leg hair routine wasn't cutting it for me. And outside of Pirlo manning the midfield, the Italians severely lack offensive oomf. I know that's their traditional defensive steez, but they need to figure out a better way to get shots on goal. Fresh young talent on the way, I hope.

Who needs Donovan?
Guys who play pro in US are used to the heat, we play in summer.
Prediction: Internet viewership in USA for today's match will be highest for any sporting event.
Kinda feel bad for those S Korean fans getting up at like 4/5am to watch their team lose nearly every game.
Some great, but sad pictures here of all the other fans whose teams let them down somewhat - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/06/25/sad-world-cup-fans_n_5530631.html
So many questions
keep the faith
