Hey 'Strutters,
On the humble, what records are at your decks right, just curious? Post some live pics, people!!! Here is mine:
-Silver Apples S/T
-"What You Need" - Side Effect
-"The Dude"-Quincy Jones.
-The LP in the crate that's visible is "Bob McGrath from Sesame Street."
-The box behind the records are ASR-10 floppy disks full of beats.
Peace,
Big Stacks from Kakalak

Playing:
Jeannie Reynolds's "Look What Your Love Has Done To Me Ma": I sometimes think I'm past shit like this. I am not.
Stacked on top:
Abyssinians "Jerusalem Dub": Top-flight jump-up.
Tavares In The City: As with many Tavares cuts, "It Only Takes A Minute" has unbearable lyrics but perfect sound. Plus, "Nothing You Can Do" is kind of a stepper.
Beach House Bloom: Fireworks down the wishing well.
Isaac Hayes Joy
Isaac Hayes Joy (in Quad): Two re-realizations: One, A/B-ing multiple versions is more interesting in theory than from my blue chair next to the record player. And two, when Isaac is good (half of "Joy"), he's really good, but when he's bad (the other half of "Joy"), dude is straight hambone. File under: Great Records That I Can Never Play When Anyone Else is Around.
Choco New Harlem Sound EP: On the low, a kids' record par excellence. Guaranteed play-date firestarter. Real heads know. And the break on "I Hope It Rains Coffee"? With the rainstorm sound effects and the strings and the kids chorus and then the Strafe beat drops? Oh my god. Even on my worst days, that shit makes me want to put on some polka-dot pants and a mockneck.
Redbone Cycles: Like a mid-late-period Mandrill record but without the good parts. Lots of boogie potential, but the writing won't let it click. For his dimly-recalled Lolly Vegas boosterism in the past, I kinda feel like pickwick33 owes me the two bucks (plus tax) I spent on this turd. Next time I see him out in the mean streets of Hyde Park, dude's gonna be pickwick30.75, straight up.
Undisputed Truth Undisputed Truth: I was a nervous little kid, and I've retained a soft spot for all that creepy, paranoid 1970s radio soul: "Smiling Faces," "Back Stabbers," "Family Affair," all those no-exit War jernts, etc. I mean, I'm an obscurantist, too, so I do ride for "Synthetic Substitution" and "Sputnik" and Chicago Gangsters' "My Ship" (the 45 version, naturally) and all that, but I guess I find more of a story in records that managed to sow their bad vibes where a lot people had to deal with them.
Wham! Fantastic: Yeah, that's right.
Bassie--that Freddie Scott LP was one of my favorite finds from December. Good to see someone else enjoying it, too.
this is next in line
I dunno if you are into crazy coincidences, but if you turn up the volume and listen to the lyrics of the Shocking Blue LP I was listening to, she sings "Its too Late" right when I get to the Wilson Pickett "It's too Late"...totally unplanned
I think Mike Westbrook's Love Songs is next....
Can't take picks right now.
i also got this recently, it's a killer:
George Marsh - MARSHLAND - up next
In the rotation:
Charles Wright - RHYTHM and POETRY
Thin Lizzy - FIGHTING
Barbara and Ernie - PRELUDE TO...
Randy California - KAPT. KOPTER
Working from home today :necessary:
Hell yes to the fIREHOSE.
