This wholly unverified prattle is really beneath a man of your intelligence. Ironically, it itself is a form of divisiveness, if not - yes - class warfare.

Additionally, you seem to be impugning upon Americans' very wish lists. Boo, Santa Claus.

It's probably best not to engage anybody who actually uses the phrase "class warfare"

"Class warfare" - "Democratic Budget Proposal," call it whatever you want.

I'm amused by Palin's recent swipes at Mrs. Obama's campaign to alleviate childhood obesity, most notably the one she made in her TLC show, offering a toast of s'mores to the First Lady's supposed disdain for dessert. The last thing we need is for Palin's devout following of Mama Grizzlies to feed their kids cake in response to the Left's fascist campaign to properly nourish America. Purses > pastries.

But if we had universal health care, we could handle all the Mama Grizzly-wrought late-onset diabetes. Oh, cruel irony!

No, silly. A dressed-and-dried calf's-head hobo should suffice.

I find it ironic that Mama Grizzlies who are most likely to give their kids diabetes are also likely to oppose universal healthcare. Or maybe they just don't want the public to be burdened by their healthcare costs.

"In shape" is coded phraseology for "Socialist."

You should have read the piece in the WSJ before the 2008 election speculating that then-Senator Obama's physique could be a hindrance to his campaign, as it would serve to paint him as out-of-touch with a fatter electorate. I actually cut it out and pinned it to the wall at work. It was literally entitled "Too Fit To Be President?"

I was thinking about all the garbage my man must have had to consume at campaign stops--Twinkies; canned domestic beer--in order to avoid accusations of being out of touch.

Not only that, but Obama probably buys his jeans at the hardware store in a failed attempt to dead them as a talking point. They can't win. I'm not mad that the jacket, though.

Not to mention eschewing arugula. It was a strange, ironic mirrorbox dude was in, considering it was the unwashed rich that created that gauntlet in the first place; the actual elite forcing one of their nascent members (completely self-made, at that) to slum. That situation got so disgusting that I was rooting for the man to order a fucking salad.

During my arch-conservative phase in the late-80s to late-90s, I once read a Rush Limbaugh article - in his Limbaugh Letter, if memory serves me - entitled something like "Why Not Be The Best?," which was essentially an apologia for conspicuous consumption. A most revolting hypocrisy.

  • rock, of course this NOT 100% about race but I am going to hold the line and repeat that a majority of this has to do with her being black and particularly a dark skin black woman. saba, concentrating on how much she spent on a purse is just straight petty dude, but then again these are the same cheap shots that beck and the rest throw. now before you get your panties in a bunch, understand I am NOT equating you with beck unless you want to be. as i stated in the beginning, in my humble opinion this whole scenario stinks of racism. all of my black female friends (especially my dark skin ladies) are seething over the shit that Michelle is getting. many of my black female friends relate to her very much because they are dealing with A LOT of the same issues.

again, yes, I know a lot of what Barack and Michelle are going thru is because they are dems and their policies that people hate, but a vast majority of it comes from deep seated hatred: racism. to say otherwise is ignore hundreds of years of history.

All this other shit aside....what in the WSJ poll do you equate with "hate"??

Is simply not supporting or approving of someone the same as hating them??

One thing I have learned in life is that most hate is rooted in jealousy.

  • basically, i saw hardball with chris matthews and he showed results from a new wsj poll saying that there was a up tick "negative" opinions about michelle. i only equated negative with hate when chris went into a lil depth and mentioned how some of the questions brought a lot of supposedly hateful answers. now if i misquoted him I apologize. however, without even seeing that poll i knew already that there was a lot of hatred towards michelle based on her skin color. believe me, i hear it from black women everyday.

I think race colors the way people perceive the President and First Lady's actions, particularly when it comes to the massive amount of disinformation that's been spread around about their policies and beliefs.

I don't think it affects their approval ratings.

This is what I don't understand - where is all the hate? (Not including the usual loony fringe stuff).

Maybe it's because I'm in NYC, but I don't see it, nor am I seeing it in the media at large.

And, if this is the case, how could she ever have had a 78% approval rating? I mean nobody has a rating much better than that.

  • There's plenty of hate around, even in New York City. I've heard it.

But this is a minority of people. And they know it. Hence, the hate.

It's not the kind of thing that's measured in a poll.

  • well, many black women get upset when they hear michelle looks brutish, she looks sooo mean, she seems overbearing blah blah. For a lot of black females especially dark skin women those are code words of deep seated hatred toward the dark color. a lot of these comments have caused many of these women have big time inferiority complexes. secondly, i hear a lot of the hatred myself when listening to media. now you may not notice it but for many black women they know when they hear it right away.

Who gives a fuck about a fuckin opinion poll. Read the comments section of any Yahoo story ever and I'd swear many would wanna strap on a Rambo headband and blow those fools heads off.
People are stupid, people are ignorant, people are myopic. People are people. I question many of the polls news organizations take at all because of:
    1) Their sample size
    2) Their line of questioning
    3) The demographic they are asking the question to
    4) In modern society, the people willing to take time out to answer these types of polls, be it on the phone, the street, etc.

It's not. If you were to take a poll on something like that, you'd be forced to conclude that there are in fact no racists at all.

Because your fanning the flames of ignorance.

Fuck a purse. That's not a big deal. Let it go.

She could light-skinned and she would get placed under a microscope.

So lets say she's gettin hatted on by some folks. Who gives a fuck?

She the First Lady. Every one of them get chastized in the media for their fashion sense, hair, or whatever. Its not some big racial conspiracy.

  • dude you just don't get it! if you think i am fanning the flames of ignorance then you don't know what the fuck you talking about.! i am sooo tired of some people on here so willing to push shit aside..that's some straight bullshit. i only mentioned the purse once and that was in response to saba to show how stupid it was to bring it up in the first place.

let it go? i just asked a question! what the fuck is wrong with that? how is that fanning the fucking flames? i NEVER once said or implied that it is some big racial conspiracy! what i can't express my anger at something i feel is unjust just cause you think it is not news worthy or not a big deal??? now who needs to get over themselves!?!

who gives a fuck?? a lot of black women like my mom that's who! it may mean nothing to you or to others on here but it does to many people i know! i am tired of people dismissing inequality in this country as if those affected are being too sensitive and seeing racism around every corner.

look i don't know, so i may be taking what you're saying the wrong way but listen holmes i am not feeling how you trying to dismiss what i am saying just cause you don't think it is a BIG deal!

    A,
By no means is it my intent to dismiss or disrespect you or the feelings of those close to you. The way I see it, part of the problem(s) are asshats like Chris Matthews and others like him that make a living by riling people up with sensationalism and demagoguery. The more they get people upset, the higher their ratings.....Rush, Beck, the whole lot of them.

If you search through Matthews past you will see this is a standard part of his schtick.... "People who criticize Michelle Obama's are racist".............or in this case "People who hate Michelle Obama are racist" and then he proceeds to use a WSJ Approval Poll to point out this supposed hate. And it works....it pissed you off even though you admit you didn't see the poll nor can state what "hate" was revealed in it.

And I understand that hearing Chris Matthews proclaim this venomous and rampant hatred for the First Lady can upset the average black woman who understand and/or lived through the ugly racial history of our country. But listening to this moronic talking head who has race so much on the tip of his tongue that he made the classic "I forgot Barack was black for an hour" comment after a moving speech, is nothing more than folly.

There is plenty of racism and bigotry in 2010.....on a myriad of levels and suffered by a variety of people.......but if we are ever to defeat and eliminate it we have to correctly identify it....and I think not doing so can do additional damage and prolong the healing and rehabilitation of our country.

Its not a BIG deal in my opinion. Sorry.

Ive learned over the years to not let the media dictate my reactions. There was a time when i was super-sensitive to peripheral shit that expended way too much energy.

Black supporters of Obama/Michelle are going to have to get w/ the game and understand that the media is a well oiled machine when it comes to character assassination. Jumping at every bad media spin is what they want U to do. " Oh hells naw - oh no he didnt" is inefficient emotional reaction...IMO.

I get that on a male-dominated board, racism is easier to relate to and identify, but Michelle Obama is not only facing racism, she is facing sexism and racism. And though it is very difficult for those on the receiving end to always extract one hate from the other - as difficult as it is for those perpetrating hate to know what it is that makes them most uncomfortable and angry - I don't think the problem is being properly addressed by citing racism only.

How easy do you think things were for Clinton?
Sacrifice is still a very big part of how well-received women are. Can you imagine if Hilary left Bill?
People expect Obama to give up a standard of living she worked hard to achieve. Why should she? Had she spent that same amount for her kids, for the White House pantry, would it have caused the same amount of BS?

Accomplished, intelligent, powerful and self-directed women are still very threatening to people.
Palin hates Obama because she's a woman first - a smarter, more successful and more attractive woman.

    haters gonna hate regardless

    that's a law of nature

being mad at it won't make things better

do those black women you talking about live vicariously through Michelle Obama or something ?

there really are worse things going on in the US when it comes to racism I believe

this is really not worthy of all the irk

Really. Because it sounds like that's exactly what you're doing. At least own up to it.

But, as long as we're playing the race card, what if I were to say I didn't like the First Lady because I thought she was a racist? Am I a racist just for entertaining the idea that a black person can be racist? Is anyone here going to challenge the possibility that black people can be just as racist and closed minded as the reddest necked Klansman? I think if you do, you either have a very limited exposure to the black community, are willfully avoiding the truth about human nature, and/or viewing black people not as individuals, but rather as just some group - the "minority." That's still a label rather than appreciating someone as an individual. And in my opinion it's just a destructive regardless of whether you view the group kindly or not. I think we can all agree that there are good people and there are bad people no matter how you want to categorize them.

As for the First Lady. She's written and said some pretty messed-up things that reflect a super-consciousness, almost paranoid, preoccupation with race that reflects the type of thinking I mentioned above. I think she see's a white person as white and then we have to try and make-up for that fact from there. She's said and written things that if the equivalent had been said by a white person, it would be cause for universal condemnation and rightly so. You might choose to give her a pass simply because shes black or because you like Obama or his policies. I don't. I don't care what her background is, or what adversity she may have overcome, or what she's achieved. There is no excuse or explanation for racism. She gets no pass from me and I wouldn't expect anyone to give me a pass if I held the same views in reverese.
