Ok, here's a decent rip of the Coke S/t LP I did over the weekend. I know many of you are familiar, but enjoy! Also, please let me know if the images aren't showing up properly. I am having difficulty getting my Flickr stream to load at the moment.
It's hard to describe the music played by Embaixador and Tribo Mass??hi. It has a Funky groove with lots of percussion, and vocals by Embaixador and a female chorus. Sometimes it sounds like African music, but not necessarily Afrobeat or Afrofunk; it's more like a Candomble (African-Brazilian religion) chant. Also, it has some influences of psychedelic music, that is characteristic of the music made in the early 70's. To me it sounds like they took some drugs and went to the studio make music and have some fun.
Each side has only one long track, that is divided in songs, although there are no intervals between them.
One of my favorite scores from the past year (thanks, Noel!), and a solid double-sider at that. Don't know much about this group except that it's Bobby Marin produced and that it absolutely HAS to be Ricardo Marrero on electric piano. It has his signature watery keys as heard on "Babalonia" (Yu Qui Yu) and his A Taste LP on TSG. Anyone have any more info for me???
Alright, this was one of my top two records that I got my hands on in 2010, and no doubt one of the best records I've heard in a long time. Top Bay Area jazz funk with just a stellar vibe throughout. Everything about this privately pressed LP from Oakland, CA is a total work of art; from the handprinted, silkscreened cover (each one is a slightly different shade of blue from what I gather) to the beautifully handwritten notes on the back urging the person in possession of this magical musical remedy to:
"Take this medication for anxiety, fatigue, dispair (sic), loneliness, dosage: 1-3 times daily. -Dr. Jones"
Yessir!
Hope it has the same robust effect on all of y'all that it does on me.
The Peoples People present The Spirit of David (The Voice of the People Record Co, 1976)
unfortunatly i cant rip any records right now (moved my studio and still havent got a 1210 in there), but as some have been liking my MCDE stuff i thought i d share two older tunes i lost in a HD crash and therefor cant finish/release em. Might be still nice to play out. sorry for the mp3 quality. Oh and so far the stuff in here has been really good!!
Ok, here's another one from Raul Gomez on Areito that some of you may know. It may be a one tracker for many, but in my opinion has it's moments. The cover art is killer! Hope you can enjoy
Okay I just ripped this real quick. Everyone knows East Of Underground by now but for those that don't know the full thing is that the original vinyl has 2 albums by 2 artists that were in the US Army Battle Of The Bands 1971. This is the other group, Soap. It's a pretty soulful rock record with a bunch of cover tunes.
White label bootleg unreleased version of the Cleptomaniacs remix of Stevie Wonder's "All I Do"
The official release of this has the song being re-sung by Bryan Chambers..this was only a one sided white label bootleg that was vinyl only and was out for like a day.
