editsremixes Kon, this one is great too. Thanks!Boooooooooooo!
Yeah, that was Platurn and me who did that edit, but there's just no substitute for getting to play with separated tracks. Nice job, Kon! This is a hot one for sure.
i want this to come out on 12" with wide grooves taking up the whole side... so not posting any audio at this time and im keeping very these tight and away from the internet where nothing is special. ive given a few to select djs i know i can trust that will uphold this code for now. sorry.
also i would like to clarify my pet peeve. edit vs remix.
edit : splicing sections of a song and putting them back together as you see fit, without adding drum tracks or any thing else not in the og song.
remix: >> multi tracks... totally NEW MIX, both sonically and arrangement wise as well as fx and so on. or maybe not having the multis but... making an og drum track etc.
im not sure where all this confusion comes from... could be a uk thing...seems they think sampling and making whole new tracks are edits. makes no sense... like calling "award tour" an edit !?!
most of you know, but just in case you dont... multi tracks 99% of the time are dry/raw... no fx/ eq nada. to get them to sound like a record means you have to do a proper mix for each track.
btw the mix on joyous sounds huuuuge...the drums are so punchy and wet..they destroy shit. this one may very well see a proper release.
heres some things ive been remixing ... not sure what is to come of them as i will never get a green light for proper release.
george benson/ give me the night
gary bartz/ gentle smiles
rick james/ mary jane
first choice/ love thing
linda clifford / runaway love
leon ware/ why i came to california
chic/ good times
chic/ everybody dance
sylvester/ over and over
roberta flack & donny hathaway/ back together
pfunk/ knee deep
bee gees/ stayin alive
slave/ watchin you
many more as well, ultimately im trying to make these the definitive versions that trump any remix/edit thats out there prior to.
new projects are also in the works. keep yall posted.
Damn dude, I didn't know you were an engineer
You working ITB or off the original tapes - what console/room you working out of?
Have you been in touch with the original engineers who mixed the OG versions? those tracks have some of the best who ever did it behind them. I'm curios to about certain tech aspects of those originals, please to post more info about what tape formulation and reference level/eq was used. There has been much speculation as to how much NAB was actually used back then.
Also Kon, did that "From the heart" Carhartt 10 inch ever come out?
OK, then you may be in a position to confirm whether or not the drum track on that song is actually a tape loop or a live drummer.
Please to not be offended; I think there's too much delay going on with the vocal bit @ the 3.20 mark (reverbed delay?), and not enough 'space', makes it sounds a bit confusing with the lone bongo that it's echoing all over rather than echoing in time to. imVho.
Great work though, I look forward to hearing those other tracks too.
Hey Enki, you mind posting it up? Great track, I'll take what I can get...
thanks. although, this rip is shitty.
im not offended, but if you can count and have rhythm... regarding "space" youll hear that nothing is out of time....count along again and pay close attention to "thing" theres only 2 things going on vox and congos, whats confusing ?
maybe you just dont like dusted fx which is fine but timing is not an issue.
infact for me, the more dubbed out and dusted the better.
however....instead of all that, none of you noticed that the horns are not there. good job guys haha.
im not an engineer of that degree. i do know some who have mixed some of sessions.
the bee gees used a loop from a session of their own. you can goggle it... they break it all down.
ok, im off to go get some more sessions.
Because if you are spooling the actual original tapes you would be able to provide us with alot of useful information, i'm just saying -the information is not all over google.
To start, and i'm very serious - I really want to know what Tape formulation and speed Good Times was recorded on. It was done right on the cusp of Dolby, but it might have not used Dolby A, It sounds like either an M79 or a MCI to me, but i really want to know. it might be on 456 - but who knows. I want to know. All of these things, along with alignment tones would be on the box the tape was stored in.
It took me years to find out what Thriller was done on, that information was not readily available -even Bruce couldn't remember. If you could shed any tech light on this stuff, seeing as you have access to the tapes, it would be very helpful. Thanks.
Also, what console are you mixing on?
Sure thing! You can check it out right here for now. I'll post up a non-Mixcrate download, too, when I get home from work tonight.
i vote for a remix of "give me the night"

btw, what other multitracks are floating around out there on the internet? i think i have the Marvin & Tammi and the Stevie "Superstition" and that's probably about it.... wasn't all that interested when the schitt was poppin' off so I don't even know.
That's cool man are you in a band?
I tell him about my band Dopamine Flux, and that we do original Funk and Soul.
He goes, that's great man. I used to be in a band bitd. We used to tear it up. Have you ever heard of the band PLEASURE? I'm the drummer Randy Hall.
NO SHIT!! So, we bullshit for a little more..
I go do you know the track Joyous?
He says, Do I know it? I mixed it.
I told him about Kon's edit of Joyous, and he lit up.
He said WOW that's phenomenal man how'd he get the masters?
I said I had no idea probably from the studio or something.
He says, he'd love to have a copy of that. He can't believe people are still interested in music like that.
I don't know If I opened a can of worms, or blew up anybodys spot, but I'd like to get a copy to give to the brother.
If that's possible. I got doubles of the OG, in my crates somewhere as well. Let me know if you guys have any questions for him.

@ philly gig.. if your coming.. be ready, bombs are going to be dropped all night. i cant wait.
@i had sex with lyn christopher record ( love your name) thanks... and maybe these will somehow see the light of day...but for now i dunno.
also.. none of these sessions are floating around on the internet.
stax/fantasy/wea are kept pretty close amongst the secret society.
Hi dude!
btw Kon this is Soulman ... yeah, I think I know the deal on the Stax etc multis (at least a couple of other well known dudes have access right?). Weren't there some other ones that got loose on the internet though? Does anybody know and can they hook a bro up if they have them? Like I said before I got a couple but I think there were more of them out there. Not that I'm going to do anything with them, it's just cool to hear these songs broken down track by track. I was amazed to hear some of the stuff that was in Ain't No Mountain High Enough that I never noticed before. :necessary:
