the ASP was bought by Zosea (Kelly Slaters Manager at the helm) last year and this is their first year in charge.
they are pushing for it to become a mainstream sport that non-surfers watch (and buy related product), so the coverage has been tightened up and given a more professional look.
no more 'swearing, maybe drunk ex pro aussie' commentators.
Kelly (42!) and John John's semi-final heat was pretty much the best heat ever surfed / seen... some truly next level (pardon the cliche) barrel riding going on, in some of the best waves ever seen in a competition.
