Can you rock a turtleneck in '09? (Style Strut)

This picture got me thinking. You see guys like Miles Davis and Steve McQueen and other dudes back in the 1960s looking good in a turtleneck but I can't say that I've seen anyone rocking one in, say, the past 10 years that made me say to myself, "That is a sharp look!" Assuming it's not a garish, ribbed-for-your-pleasure, XXL turtleneck from the Gap, can you pull off a turtleneck? b, 21b, 21The -2 (without factoring in the windchill) temps might have helped spurn this post as well.b, 21b, 21img src="http://www.kalamu.com/bol/wp-content/content/images/miles davis 46.jpg"1

Yeah, I'm actually wearing one right now. If you pick one that's not too thick, like a light cashmere fabric, you can wear it with a suit or just tone it down with a nice jacket.

  • i've tried to rock the turtleneck in the past, but it was not meant to be. i'll never look as cool as miles, et. al in one of those joints.

As long as it's not white and/or skintight.

Miles could pull of all but the most ridiculous of looks. I was watching a documentary about the music he played at the 1970 Isle of Wight gig; "A Different Kind of Blue". Miles rocking some blue hexagonal shades that make a greenhouse look like contact lenses.b, 21b, 21Black is always a good move for a turtleneck, esp. if you want to look thinner. I was also bought a cycling top last year because I regularly cycle, but I looked like a psychedelic string of sausages in that. NAGL x ∞

font class="post"1b, 21b, 21that's one of my favorite things about miles, especially during the late-60s-70s. every time i see a picture of him from that era he is wearing the illest shit, especially when it come to glasses.b, 21b, 21 img src="http://www.peoplequiz.com/images/bios/milesdavis.jpg"1

I really think you should all take a step back and consider if you might just be fooling yourself a little bit about whether that turtleneck is a good look. I mean, hey, if you want to run with it after that, godspeed, but I'm just sayin', roll it around in the old noggin for a second.

font class="post"1b, 21b, 21Not in this picture!! Miles could be a dapper brother when he wanted to be, and the turtleneck is cool. But, on the day this photo was taken, he could have also used a comb and a jar of Stridex. b, 21b, 21img src="http://www.kalamu.com/bol/wp-content/content/images/miles davis 46.jpg"1
