A friend of mine recently used the saying "they got shit in their mess kit" in reference to a case being brought against him where proper procedures were completely ignored. this saying needs to be revived cause its perfect for the right situation. b, 21also feeling "not worth his salt" in the proper setting.

I was feeling this today for "penny wise, pound foolish".b, 21b, 21Girl at work spent three hours phoning round to find the cheapest car insurance and managed to save herself twenty quid.b, 21Meanwhile she can't find time to meet a pension adviser, and loses 200 quid a month in company contributions as a result.

  • when my dad gets pissed he'll say...b, 21"what kind of mickey mouse organization is this!?!?!?"b, 21b, 21i use it time to time...

b, 21b, 21b, 21That's a good one. My old Scoutmaster used to say that. b, 21b, 21b, 21I occasionally say, "try not to get your pantyhose in a knot" or "in a bunch." I'm not sure how old school that is though.b, 21b, 21b, 21I also like and try to use "on the fritz" or "on the blink" but it doesn't come up that often.

  • Not sure if this is really old timey talk or not, but a good friend of mine always says "boppin'/bopped around" and "hunker down."b, 21b, 21Ex.b, 21"What did you do today, T**a?"b, 21"Oh, just bopped around 4th Ave checkin' out thrift stores."b, 21b, 21And...b, 21b, 21"So when are you gonna hunker down with a special lil' lady?"b, 21b, 21b, 21I love her lingo. Now that I think about, it sounds VERY old timey to me.

b, 21b, 21b, 21Man, this is my thread right here. b, 21b, 21I've used hunker down a bit, but in more of a "get focused" sense rather than the "settle down" sense. Like, "I got finals this week, time to hunker down and hit the books." Similar to "nose to the grindstone" if you will. b, 21b, 21"Boppin'" always makes me think of The Warriors. I guess you could consider that old-time. I've been trying to work the phrase, "Lookin' good, boppers!" into normal use but it's been difficult.

  • for some reason i said "i don't cotton to that" the other day when a friend mentioned something that i do not like. i'm not sure why that particular saying came up at the time, perhaps i was channeling my grandmother.

  • I was talking to a coworker last week who was saying that she didn't know why she was still working here, since she hates it so much. I said, "Well, when you're standing in shit, it stinks, but it's warm."b, 21b, 21The look on her face was priceless.

The other day I was having a conversation with someone and I replied to their statement with, "and how!" like I was in agreement with them.b, 21b, 21Now, granted it was via instant message- so maybe the context/tone wasn't easy to decipher, but they replied back with a simple "Huh? How what?"
