i have no problems with the gehry stuff really. but how much gehry needs to be in downtown LA? i mean, there are obviously a lot of good architects out there, especially when looking right here. so why does LA deem it necessary to have a whole section of downtown with just all gehry shit? thats fucken lame.b,121b,121b,121b,121also, i lived right across the street from this and would go there late at night and just hang out by my lonesome. i was a sadsack in college. img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /1 if youre brooding, this is a great spot to do so.b,121/font1
font class="post"1b,121b,121b,121AND...NO LE CORBUSIER? i dont think i had much of an appreciation of his stuff cuz it basically spurned those new york style project housing looks and i think in this day and age it is just creates a dismal depressing omnipresant feeling. but my architect dude, spicolighost, explained that this french dude had high hopes and his stuff was actually meant to be a kind of comunal architecture in a way. but maybe i misunderstood. in any case, his buildings and its impact in this country are scary.
font class="post"1 img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cos3ve.gif" alt="" /1b,121Absolutely...Mies Van Der Rohe is definitely one of my favorite architects. He designed the main building for the Museum of Fine Arts - Houston. MVDR - one of the sickest ever. I don't necessarily view his work as being simple. Geometrically speaking, it's in line with most Bauhaus designs. I definitely think his work is underrated...as are the writings of Le Corbusier...b,121b,121And, might I add, Antoni Gaudi's buildings are INCREDIBLE...

I definitely fall into a similar category of liking 60-70's architecture, particularly outsider architects like the ant farm, or archigram.b,121i always wanted one of these temporary houses from matti suuronen, the futurob,121b,121img src="http://idont.no/ilovethisworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/11/futurohome.jpg"1 b,121img src="http://www.zentropolis.com/2005_futuro/slides/Futuro Interior 4.jpg"1 b,121img src="http://www.zentropolis.com/2005_futuro/slides/Futuro Interior 1.jpg"1 b,121b,121on a similar tip, (this isn't anyone's favorite building) but my company sponsored an open design competition to redesign the White Houseb,121b,121We just had the opening the other night during the VP debate, which was hot and ended getting busted up by the police.b,121b,121An all-star cast did the judging, incl Mark Wigley, Liz Diller, John Maeda, and they chose a pretty far out one for the winnerb,121object width="425" height="344"1param name="movie" value=""1/param1param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"1/param1embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"1/embed1/object1b,121b,121so from the funny, to ridiculous, to really thoughtful, 450 people entered from all around the world.b,121b,121there is a popular vote, and you can vote for your favorite design here:b,121b,121a href="http://www.whitehouseredux.org" target="_blank"1www.whitehouseredux.org/a1
