Grand Bahama Goombay is also very good ... though I'd probably pick Belize.

Of course Jesus Rhapsody p. 1 alone makes grabbing up A Funk Hymnal

Sabata's "Man For My Lady" is my favorite Numero single.

The Twinight comp is arguably the best of the eccentric soul series thus far. Outside of that, I think the Belize comp is definitely very good and of course, the Gospel Funk comp is ace too.

I think the better question would be: what's the least interesting comp they've put out?

I only own the Catherine Howe and Ladies From The Canyon, both of which are lovely.

The Twinight was surprisingly my least favorite so far. (although I love it)

My favorite would have to be the Miami Deep City one. Although the Capsoul, Bandit, Goombay and Gospel ones are amazingly great too. I still need that Belize one and the Ladies of the Canyon one..

So essential. Capsoul was also an extremely necessary one.

This unattainable record is about to get more unattainable.
    Great

  • Capsoul was also an extremely necessary one.

i like the capsoul one bc many of those 45s, save the kool blues, can be found, so it's kinda cool to build one's own little capsoul collection after hearing the comp.

OH SHIT. i am extremely excited for this.

i think my favorite releases so far were the gospel one and the prix label. capsoul was cool, but i usually skip a lot of the stuff on that one.

i need the twinight one i guess, havent heard that yet but every twinight record ive ever heard was solid.

Could you post a clip so we can all have a sip? Sounds crazy

  • I ride for Deep City, with "Pain In My Heart" getting the most burn of any song they've comped. So real with it!

How old were the Quantrells? Bob told me they died in a tragic car related accident, shortly after they recorded that 45?

They were sisters between the ages of 12-15. Billy McGregor (of Mr Shy and McGregor Brothers fame) produced the record for Willie Dixon's semi-custom Yambo label. Billy made no mention of the three girls dying in a car accident, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn they had. Details are funny like that.

I'll post a sip of the juice when I get into the office.
