4 hero is always good ...broken beat aint shit but a house beat(or medium tempo beat) with different melodies, unlike houe where it was a just the same melodie going ....I love them both though ...good shit

Thanks, I will check it out for sure.

Melodies? Yo! what about the rhythm... it took me like 6 or 7 years to understand that shit! LOL And I'm still not sure to really know the deal about that.

Uh! Can someone explain what is the history of this musical style?

well, depends on how you interpret it. Some people look at them as being the same, or view them differently...

Put it like this, music is math, because there are so many ways you can solve the answer or explain it( im speaking figuratively).

it can be described a vibeful house or soulful house,so many names for it...there is a constant 4/4 time signature just like house, but there are diffrent rhtyms and melodies that are changing up like every 8 to 16 bars ......roots come from all the soulful/vibeful artists like roy ayers, james mason, etc .....

    good shit, either way

Broken beat borrows heavily from afro and latin infulences.4 hero, Bugz n the Attic, Spiritual South and Afronaught are probably the highlights of this genre for me. I don't know about writing it off as just a form of house music though.

Absolutely not, that is why i said there is so many names for it ....but for most of it, like yukihiro fukitomi, bugs, king britt, domu, it is rather electric house-ish...

But this shit is getting like fucking boxing( so many sanctions) with all of these damn genres, so I just usually lable it soulful/ electric/ house...

"Artists in this area mostly have a drum and bass, house, hip hop, techno or acid jazz background"

i try to remember to check out brokenbeatradio.com (as posted above), and sometimes stuff on BBC's 1xtra. Benji B rocks some of this genre on his show at times.

Aser & Yosaku have a show online called BEYOND CATEGORY, playing all kinds of good shit:

  • 5+4=9
    4+5=9
    10-1=9

.....there are so many ways to add to 9 or minus down to nine...

in music there are so many ways to structure a melody or a beat..(simple)4/4 time sigs...(or compound)3/4 6/8 time sigs

there are many interpretations to music and math, and many different structures( ways to forming a value, scale or formula)

but all in all, brokenbeat is good shit.

is this music still called "broken beat"? The last time I heard this term was three years ago. I especially like some releases from sonarkollektiv, moonstarr dropped some heat as well. Does fluid ounce still exist? They had a couple of excellent 12".
Pulver in Germany is also nice.

Many of he real West London releases are rather though. Bitasweet and 2000black released so much crap (and a couple of outstanding tracks).

which 2000black is crap? i have nearly all and love em..

OK, the term crap is to harsh, let??s say tepid. many of these so called big dudes in the broken beat game simply release to much - quantity over quality. How many imitations of "loose lips" does the world need?

ok, i can see what u mean. if you are a fan of Brokenbeat, u ll say "it`s their style". if u are not really into it, u ll be more like "it`s always the same"..
i m somewhere in between. i love dego`s keyboard structures, but you are right, a lot of people were inspired by him to do the same. Including me.
