Hello.I'm heading to the video store after work and I want to rent a spooky movie. something spooky spooky. not blooky slasher shit, just spooky. and not a documentary about DJ Spooky either.Preferably about spooky armadillos, but i'm not too picky.

I dare you to not cry like a soft ex-Military bitch when you watch this. Yea, double-dog-tree-stump-eating-your-fucking-face dare you. Now that's spooky!

carnival of souls - gave me nightmares as an adult!!!
    the changeling

  • probably more creepy than spooky

this is def. spooky (and awesome):

  • I just rewatched Amityville II - The Possession and found it pretty good.

Little Otik is great. But his most recent film S??len?? (2005) aka Lunacy is to be avoided really. It's a drag.

If you like The Tenant, maybe you should check out Naboer (2005) aka Next Door.

For tacky spooky stuff I would recommend Brian Yusna's Beneath Still Water. Old school Euro horror kitch.

Cronos, debut film from Guillermo del Toro, the director of Hellboy.

  • Any movie from the Hammer Studios would classify as Spooky.

    or directed by Mario Bava

Not out on DVD yet, but I thought "The Descent" was excellent. I like the British ending better than the US one.

  • Santa Sangre
    Django Kill
Pusher I, II and III (the first two are pure )

  • some nice movies have been mentioned, but no one can f*** with these

this has always been my favourite, and is probably the goriest movie ever made. also the most fun.

  • This is more wicked than spooky...but still kinda spooky in a twilight zone kind of way. Spooky wicked soundtrack too! And its Vincent Price so you should check it out.

Co-sign! Haven't seen two or three yet and Netflix says they're coming soon.

Ah hell yeah, Bernard Rose right? Cool little movie.

Cosine on the Haunting too, original benchmark for what you can do with suggestion rather than what you see.

And of course can't forget another classic brit creep fest featuring the creepiest man in hollywood:

Going back a bit this used to scare the shit out of me as a kid and it still gets pretty close today.

    Lou Chaney is the man.

Now that is a great film.

    Session 9

    File under unknown and/or underrated.
Plus you get a fantasic David Caruso "FUCK YOU!" moment in it!

Naw for real it was released around 9/11 and quickly sunk out of sight (a la many flicks that came out around that time like Donnie Darko). They filmed it in an huge abandoned nuthouse outside Boston (Danvers State Hospital) with digital cameras on a very small budget and it's just really well done.

Captures New England wonderfully and is very spooky to boot.
