MPC internal drive malfunction.

So i think the floppy drive in my mpc2000 has gone kaput. it used to load the system software but reads as a disk error now. i tried a couple disks and al have the same problem. i'm fairly sure it must be the drive. Any suggestions for a remedy? Could I replace it with an internal zip? is this something i can do myself? plaese to knowledge me, sonathans.

    i don't remember if you can use an internal zip drive in a plain 2000 but if you can then it should work fine. installing a zip drive in a 2000xl is easy but my pads got all fucked up after i did it. you do need to solder some wires together because the power connection the zip drive uses is different than the floppy drive.

    Skip the zips altogether and get an scsi card reader for your 2000.

    The 2 links Brian posted will have all the info you need but I'm happy to help in any way.

    what snuffdaddy said, zip drives cause too much trouble. you're better off just getting an external scsi drive.

    Damn I didn't realise how many guys on here are from australia!

    Just a note on that... You can install an scsi reader in the mpc with some minor internal mods.
