god hath shone his everpresent light upon me and all my good deeds (hahah... no really) and has given me the 11th commandment:

Thou shall go into the racks of gospel glory and compile My music for the all the people to hear and appreciate.

so it has been said... so it will be done.

'06/'07 gospel comp by Justin Torres... you have been learned.

    If I;ve done this right,

a little clip of something winging it's way to me as I type. If I haven't done it right. A wasted post.

    Liner notes:

In short, we are trying to offer our fellowmen a different kind of music. Here we think you will find music that the black man can more easily relate to. Also music that he can more fervently worship by, because it is the music of the black mind.

Are we speaking only to the black man through these grooves? No sir! Our album offers the white man a chance, an option to enrich and indeed broaden his own experience. We think our music will awaken him to a chance for successful and enriching change.

Granted the comp as a whole isn't as deep as most of us would compile something - but has anybody heard the Lovers of God 45, except for the couple of people I played it to?

Nope, can you hook me up?

    thanks,
    T

Hello Tenyu, nice to see you on here.

Can't at the moment as the 45 is back in the UK - I might have a photo of it somewhere if that helps.

Nice quote from the Fabulous Tapps. I'm pretty sure that there's a track from the LP scheduled for Volume 3.

    hey Tenyu,
glad youre here...at least there is another person on here now who recognizes the excellence of Ms. Lula Collins. she gets no love here for some reason. You should talk to shingaling on this board...he put together the myspace page for her and he was interested in those label scans you posted at the funk45 board.

Do you happen to know if the Gospel Express label was named after her song? or vice versa?

Sounds good! Did you find the artists?

I think Gospel Express was around before Lula's first records but not sure most aren't dated. I recently learned her Yesterday Today Tomorrow LP was recorded in the 8ts!

I don't compile the LP as such, I only contributed a couple of cuts for vol. 2.....vol. 3 is still in track submission stage, and I'm sure I saw a Tapps track on there. One thing about Soul Jazz is that they will be thorough in finding the artists, so now it's over to them. Let's hope......

its funny... that that gospel express sleeve(lots of their LPs come in that sleeve and other variations) and other ill gospel records have been posted on here before by shingaling, but no one acknowledged the post or gave a crap. I guess we dont know anything about Memphis gospel records in Memphis.

it is just funny that you see those boner emoticons over the lamest damn Gospel records. Maybe I will post the audio to one particulary face melting D-Vine Spirituals 45 again and see what happens this time. I just suppose folks werent ready for such illness.

Finewine got into some Memphis gospel this past week..I gave him a copy of O'Neal and the Dean Brothers on Designer and he seemed quite taken with it.

  • thanks for taking my EMOTICON so literally ("got it" vs. "holy grail"...not always both)

Actually I prefer gospel harmony joints meself as well but that's no matter.

    happy mothers day!
