I think your friend is probably jelly that you got the spot. Ask yourself, do you trust one salty DJ dude or 2500 happy partygoers?
Doing a juggle routine in 2006 gets the gasface, I don't care who you are.
thats pretty much what i am feeling. dude went so far as to post a blog on his myspace paging crapping on us.
dude. he made a review by posting a blog on myspace. that just screams bitchmade jealousy.
...not to hi-jack, but I saw Q-Bert perform in baltimore last night. he played for about 1.5 hours when he was suppose to only do a 20min set. he did the 1-turntable 'rock the bells' routine too, faces were melting left and right.
your fellow DJ friend that is dissing you is an idiot. he's just saying what he woulda done in your shoes [because he is obviously full of envy]... and he's wrong on top. putting on a "scratch set" before MMM would just make you look like a talentless dill-hole... you would get outshined no matter what. you did the wise thing and stuck to what you know... i wouldn't be mad if i was going to go see a scratch DJ and heard a bunch of hip-hop classics before-hand... and playing a bunch of beastie boys tracks is a RETARDED idea as well... yeah, i'm sure beastie boys is exactly what MMM would wanna hear (sarcasm)
and no offense... but "made fools of richmond hip-hop"... "our city of hip-hop"???
the dude sounds like a PMS-ing drama queen to me... straight up hatter who's talkin loud and sayin nothing.
besides, who fuckin died and made him the mayor of "hip-hop town"?
Im a Richmond Va person for a while now and I did have fun at the show. I dont know you Richmatic guy's but Id like to hang with yall ..... seem like a good group of kids ..... I honestly get intimidated around really masculine hardcore hip-hop shows but I usually have fun when with the right people. Keep up the shows .... it gives us stuff to do in a sometimes lacking town. And the Virginia is for haters comment is on point ...... but we got to stay positive ....

Sounds like things worked out for you which is the bottom-line. It also sounds like the dude complaining on his blog is off of his rocker.
But personally I've grown soooo tired of hearing that same old safest, greatest rap hits of the early 90's set year after year after year...that while I wouldn't necessarily diss someone for resorting to it, I wouldn't be looking to shower them with accolades either.
yeah, but that comes from a DJ/collector perspective... you have to remember that about 75% of the people there don't fall into that category and don't view it the same way and just plain wanna have a good time. i don't go out a whole lot either, so it's not like i'm fed up with 90's classic hiphop... i'm just glad if they're spinning sumthin decent most the time.
besides... it's richmond... guys are even lucky MMM actually swung by... i'm sure they could complain about much deeper issues.

I feel you on that, but realize that these 1200 people were there to see MMM, not Young Jeezy. It sounds like dudes played the right records for that crowd, which is the absolute bottom line.
first off you need to be aware of all the elements of hip-hop* to understand this dude:
1. graffiti 2. DJing 3. MCing 4. breakdancing 5. security 6. catering 7. always being conscious of the elements of hip hop 8. repping your city to the fullest[/b] 9. paying dues
*there may be some elements I'm missing--James, Andy, Dante?

* beatboxing your local cypher * talking about the video before recording the song
i feel what you're saying, but if that whiny-ass was "representing richmond" i'd be forced to think they're a bunch of immature, self-righteous, hatting bitches... so i dunno. there's a difference between representing and being a hater. plus, a mans gotta have sumthin to "represent" before he starts yappin. talent & wits should come first.
