  • I think that Atlantis is just a metaphor for an advanced antediluvian civilization that fell apart around the time of the first ice-age.

Same fate probably awaits us... Look out for 2012!

  • Once a mythical city is found to be real, it ceases to be a myth, so, um, er.. that is a conundrum of a question...

Like the Japanese Underwater Pyramids near Yonaguni Island. Was that a city or what the heck was it?

    Are there involved?

Not a conundrum. Nobody has found them to be real yet, so they're still a myth. Thus one can ponder if they're real or not. Kinda like Jesus.

I'll dive that one day....for real it looks similar to "Chapel steps" off Sydney Heads.

  • I hear Atlantis is nice to visit but their hotel occupancy tax is a killer.

I think they are most likely cultural archetypes probably representing some collective idea of a mythical culture comprised of suns of god who created civilization. these myths are found all over the globe. However, we have seen from archeology that historic humans were far more adventerous and cunning than we generally give them credit for. We know that the silk road was in operation perhaps thousands of years before the first millenium. The Minoans at Crete seem to resemble most of what we embody in the myths of atlantis and other island cities. They were a highly advanced and most likely old culture whose artifacts showed that they were refined over millenia. Their orgins are unknown -- some speculating they are descendents of a proto Carthage or Egyptian sect others thinking they travelled from central russian plains. Their language Linear A, although it can be read and pronounced is still indecipherable. They vanished mysteriously around 1400 bc and most likely gave rise to the Myceniaen heroes of Homer.

Surely they must've uncovered a city that was once regarded as a myth.

Like Timbuktu, wasn't that a myth at one stage & remained one for centuries until someone came across it about 500 or so years ago... Meaning that one part of society heard fables & created a myth, even though it existed for the people who lived in it... Like King Solomons Mines. Are some just purely fictional & others have a real historical basis.

Atlantis, El Dorado, Shang-ri-la, Tartessus, that's all I can think of at the moment...
