i have free cable in my apartment because i have a cable modem, and when they turn that connection on, it all turns on.

  • yeah i do get like the most basic package w/ the modem, but i don't get the good shit (espn, msg, tnt, comedy, etc etc etc). i'm thinking there must be some kind of cable box on the building somewhere that i can get into. at least it was like that when i lived in austin.

weird i get all that; espn, espn2, tbs, comedy central, tnt, etc. it might be the packages that your cable provider offers, with multiple tiers of options/channels you can buy.

I know how to lay cable!!! But anyway, go into the basement and see if there is a box with everybody's cable going in it. Switch one of the cables to your apartment. Somebody did that to us once. I figured it out and switched it back. I wasn't too happy about it though.

  • have a balcony or access to the roof?

check the bay for FTA satellites.
    viewsat, coolsat, etc.
    set up your dish
flash your FTA box with a modified bin file and a channel list, VOILA!:

I think that's worth a shot if you own your own home, etc.

Doesn't look too hard to do, actually.

I'm cheap/lazy and live in an APT. so I just stole the cable feed accessing my building, but my boys do the FTA thing and now that they cracked Nag2 that shit is the jumpoff. Pron, PPV, Movies, XM and Sirius Radio FOR DAYS!!!!!!

TRUST! Even if you have a private balcony where you can install your dish and have it pointing south, you're set.

the next time you're driving in any low-income or newly arrived to the states neighborhood take a look at the rooftops and balconies. you'll see a bunch of satellite dishes pointing in different directions (european, asian channels), some without logos, wires dangling down into windows, etc. people in better neigborhoods also have it going on, but it's just easier to notice in the hood (no having to look in back yards). fuck a monthly subscription fee.

It's also a way to make side money for rackords!

    informal economy, rock on!

  • so I just stole the cable feed accessing my building,

this needs to be flushed out some more. is it like dude said above? just go in the basement and switch out the plugs? cant you get a splitter or something so other dude still has the cable? just wondering. for a friend. that's not me. no

If u have a balcony, look for wires running along the wall. They're often near balconies to make for easier servicing. Grab a wire that continues up to the next floor & cut into it. Connect to splitter. Bang. Instant cable.

when i lived with my sister, we just stopped paying for it and kept getting it...

  • i used to have cable. i paid $100 to a friends friends associate to have it hooked up. seemed cool to pay $100 upfront for the basic 49.99 cable package. life was good for 14 months before Comcast(local cable provider) started doing audits and found that i wasnt paying. they cut it off and now i rock bunny ears wrapped in foil. i suppose it was cool paying roughly less than $10 a month for cable.

on a sidenote, i work in low-income housing and dudes living here all gots cable!!! satellites all over the place! kinda wonder how they can pay for it all huh?

but yeah anybody in the south bay area whose got cable hooks, let me know!

i my friend has no balcony. i live in an old 1920s apt bldg with all kinds of shit hanging off it. ive cut into 2 cables in my apt trying to hook up some cable but no go. maybe its just not meant to be. oh well. anyone catch dakota fanning on barbara walters [regular tv] last night? that kid is disturbing. not jean benet dress your baby like a whore disturbing, but still disturbing nonetheless. tom cruise was on it last night too. it was like 10 of the most interesting people and i thought it would be interesting but it was these fucks along with tom messireau or whoever jacko's lawyer dude. kanye was cool tho.

Or get a long piece of coaxial cable (aka cable wire), find a bunch of cable wires on the roof, cut one that's there and (but dude you gotta know which side the feed is) attach the splitter, then put your piece on and drop it down to your window. This works in some apartment buildings, depends on where the wires are though.

  • wireless card/ network adapter...

and the cable is free too courtesy of my landlord

i dont do it, but i have a friend that does it for you 100 bucks/year

  • so you hacked his cable modem?

no..i was splitting off a cable modem with a friend from the building behind me. he had a mac and it kept fucking with the router, so i just went out and bought a wireless card and booster. there are about 6 or more unsecured wireless connections around me.

    bingo. free internet.

Shig, I have a couple of friends who work for a company that contracts to Comcast and here's what we did:

Found the line coming into my APT

Followed it thru the drop ceiling to the point where it came closest to the mainline that is always on

    Cut main cable

    Put in splitter

    Made "patch" cable

    Cut my cable

    Put in spliter

Conected my line to mainline via "patch" cable

Voila, cable is on and Comcast can't audit it

    High fives all around

  • SOMEBODY GOT A LINK TO A WEBSITE THEAT TELLS YOU HOW TO HOCK UP THIS SATELITE DISH STUFF?!

Dudes, depending on how up on shit your local cabel place is when you cut their line they know. They will send a dude out to investigate. My boy was building a workshop in his back yard, ended up cutting a cable line and then repairing it himself, next day cable company was out asking questions...

  • thanks man! im still not sure what this all means but im trying to educate myself right now. do you already need a cable box for this to work? most folks with cable around here have the cable box thingies.

anyways, karlito, i found this whilst snooping on the web.

On mine the wires are just hanging outside, I could theoretically splice a neighbor's but I don't know how long that would go w/o being noticed.

If you were real cool with a neighbor you could splice theirs, run it through the wall, and split the bill or something.

Other than that if you just want to switch it on the regular way they keep them in boxes up a telephone pole, and then they keep blockers on them that you need a special tool to get them off with.

That being said, call it my old age, but I don't think it's worth it heisting some cable. That's just potential trouble right there.

And this is coming from a guy who has been cable free for several years now.

No box necessary for the first 100 channels

The friends I had help me "tagged" the patch cable, their tag over rides anything Comcast can do to it. Looks totally legit to the cable company.
