Sorry for the shameless self promotion, but ten12 is putting out its second 12-inch of the Skull Snaps (the only authorized). We put out Snapped in early 2006 and this month are dropping an inreleased extended mix of It's A New Day edited by Underdo…

There was a little trouble with the sound man. I think it was because the Skull Snaps didn't show for the sound check. But that stuff just happens. A recording enginneer was brought in to do the sound check but took off because of time constraints…

I'm leaning to agree with smallchange's take on the show. Also, this is the first time all of these players got together to do a show like this. It was a review; it was an experimental venture to see from the perspective of the Skull Snaps and the…

I heard that the show was great from the band and the booking agent. Does anyone out there have a feel if poeple would be interested in going to see Black Merda in NYC?
-
I agree. Hope on not being to strong. I'll stop. Just obsessed.

caddis 3 Skull Snaps Come again? Do not understand.

can you burn me a cd of that Skull Snaps AP? If you need a burned copy of the CD, you can get it from the Skull Snaps direct at their December 9th show at the Knitting Factory. Ask for Samm Culley...

Have the original with the I'm Your Pimp sticker on the upper right corner. Got it from band member Sam Culley. There has been word of an Italian Pressing floating round (original issue). Has anyone heard about that one? If so is it a boot, or did G…

Haha! The original Diplomats (not the rap group) got their name from either the old street gang or because they were a DC/ Maryland group?
-
I'm listening to it now. The vocal hi and out front is Sam and I think Erv is in the back with Tom. The Diplomats were originally from DC/ Maryland before they made their way up to Conn and NY. I'll ask them about how they got involved.

Wow! I did not know that. How does that recording sound? Uptempo? Mid? Soul? Funkedout? I'm hopping to their practice session today. Thanks for this. I will print it out and show them. They have done so many recordings, everytime I show them somethi…

Yes! Sam Culley, Erv Waters and Tom Price aka The Diplomats. Bill Collier was also a member but not on that record I do not think. The difference between the Snaps and Diplomats is the drummer George Bragg who is responsible for the beats on the Sku…

Besides the track on the LP and Al's Raazorblade/Ain't That Loving you Grill 7-inch; does anyone know of any other releases they had?
-
I tend to agree that it is more on the soul tip. I would argue to say (with tracks like "I'm Your Pimp" that you could call it late stage Northern Soul.
-
That is not the case. I have the tape from Cleothorpes in the UK, talk to Samm on a weekly basis, etc etc. The went over their with most of the Diplomats members, but they did not bring over the drummer George Bragg SO this show is the first time in…

They actually do have a legacy. They are same folks behind the Diplomats, the All Dyrections, etc. Also, Samm Culley (of the Skull Snaps and Diplomats) was also in the Fatback Band. Basically, they fell into the old trick of changing the names of th…

There is also a great cover of Soul Makossa by the All Dyrections. On the flip side of this Buddah release is another great joint called On Top Of It. The All Dyrections were Samm Culley, Ervan Waters, and the drummer George Bragg. The interesting …

24 Hours to Skull Snaps landing...

thanks for putting it up, still can't figure out how though.

pic: http://www.ten12records.com/images/snaps_reher.jpg Had a chance to snap a few photos of the Skull Snaps rehearsal a few weeks back. This one is Sam Culley on the bass and George Bragg on the drums working over "I'm Your Pimp"

Nah, only two of the members of the Diplomats and Skull Snaps played at the UK show, namely Samm and Erv. (The other guys in the UK show were Erv's brothers AND they just did vocals at Cleothorpes in the UK). The show on December 9 has them with the…
