    good comparison
    redman just wins out for me just due to consistency and I think he has a better ear for beats

    true, and a big part of that is the fact that he has allways been down with those dudes, Nas seems to change producers really often which I think doesnt help maintain any sort of consistent sound, I imagine that this would more than likely be due to being under more commercial pressure than Redman (in my private mindgarden anyway)

    Yall know my stance on ILLmatic but I wont front on what it did for the game.

    Im really tryin to wrestle w/ the mc vs mc part.

    Nas is the more "intelligent" mc, but Redman's cleverness and wittiness matches that IMO.
    Redmans humor is more appealing to me, yet Nas does take chances.
    Shit like Rewind is a great idea, that i dont think any went there before.

    Banger for Banger....i dont feel like doin the math on that one.

    I have more fun when listening to Redman.

    Redman is weirder and takes himself less seriously.
    Nas' subject matter can be weightier.

    On a personal level, I have some great/hazy memories of getting seriously zooted and listening to The Superman Lover.

    i don't know about tune fi tune, but album for album? redman all the way. his catalogue crushes nas's.

    I love them both, but I always gravitated more towards Redman's catalogue because he sounded like he had fun making those albums of his. I don't know how to explain it, but there was always an eccentricity and enthusiasm in Redman's performance that I never really felt from Nas. And that enthusiam had me enthused to listen and enjoy. Plus, I think Nas had to spend the rest of his career living up to or surpassing Illmatic. Redman could do as he pleased. And it was pleasing to me.

    yeah, this is right on point.

    I've always felt that Redman has been underrated as a top mc because of the, sort of, goofiness factor. i think the clever lines he has are sort of over shadowed by his rap style to most of the public. It seems like, in teh 90's specifically, the joking/goofy mc was always second tier to the serious/intellctual rapper in terms of a "best lyricist" debate.

    Illmatic > Redman but Redman over Nas pretty much sums this thread up

    whoever wrote illmatic > redman; redman > nas was totally on point.

    redman doesn't have an illmatic (who does?), but he's been way more consistently entertaining over the yrs, and I don't mean "entertaining" in a haha way, I mean his music/rapping has been much more enjoyable to me musically over the yrs.
