Where Are They Now?

  • I was listening to WWOZ this week and heard they were having a two night tribute to Willie Tee at Sweet Lorraine's this weekend (I was unaware he had passed). Looks like a great line-up: Bo Dollis, Leo Nocentelli, Zigaboo Modeliste, Charmaine Neville, Germaine Bazzle, BJ Crosby, the Dixie Cups, etc. Wish I was still living in NOLA.

    From Wikipedia:
In October 2005, after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, Willie Tee accepted a job as a visiting lecturer in the music department at Princeton University and spent the next four months working with music students there. In January 2006, he returned to Louisiana and settled in Baton Rouge.

Willie Tee died on September 11, 2007, aged 63, four weeks after being diagnosed with colon cancer. His brother, Earl Turbinton, had passed away the previous month.

I recently caught the one Corky Nemec in some bad cop show on a 2nd rate cable channel. he's still working apparently.

Apparently he really CAN'T lose! Maybe he don't win every time, but dude CAN'T LOSE.

well he was in the Jump Around video and then dude was immortalized on KMD's Black Bastards. I'd say he really can't lose.

    CAPTAIN RUDEFLOW!!!

So just now Chan and I were discussing the '92 MTV Spring Break special with the star-studded Yo! MTV Raps freestyle session. He hit me with the video of Cypress Hill's performance and I went searching for Parker Lewis' freestyle that he did on one of those live game shows that preceded the Yo! episode (on the same stage). I Googled his MC name - Captain Rudeflow - and where does Google take me? Right back to my very own post 3.5 years ago.

    Trip. The eff. Out.

Still can't find the video though.

    From wiki:
Producer Ivor Guest confirmed that Jones had completed recording of her new album in 2007. Other participants on the album included the original Compass Point All Stars lineup, including Sly and Robbie, Mikey Chung and Wally Badarou, joined by Brian Eno, Bruce Woolley, Tricky and Tony Allen. The Hurricane album (initially to be titled Corporate Cannibal[25]) was released on October 27, 2008, on Wall of Sound/PIAS Records, meeting with positive reviews.[26][27][25] "Corporate Cannibal" became album's lead single, with its music video directed by Nick Hooker.[28] Jones embarked a concert tour on the turn of 2008 and 2009, and appeared at Secret Garden Party and Latitude Festival to promote the new album. The video for the second single, "Williams' Blood", used live footage from the Hurricane Tour. Grace Jones also collaborated with the avant-garde poet Brigitte Fontaine in a duet named " Soufi" from Fontaine's latest album 'Prohibition' released in the fall 2009, and produced by Ivor Guest.[29] On April 26, 2010 Grace Jones performed at Royal Albert Hall, receiving rave reviews.[30] A One Man Show was finally released on DVD, as Grace Jones - Live in Concert, in 2010 with 3 bonus videoclips ("Slave to the Rhythm", "Love Is the Drug" and "Crush"). "Love You to Life", the third single off Hurricane, was released on May 2, 2010.

    Trip out.

Somehow Parker Lewis aka Corky Nemec popped up on one of my Facebook posts. I Googled his rap name (Captain Rudeflow) from the classic Yo! MTV Raps Spring Break episode and the first link that pops up is this thread...in which I mentioned in 2011 that I had done the exact same thing and my own post from 2007 popped up in a Google search. I must be the only one that cares about the guy's short-lived rap career!

    Anyways, back on topic...

I used to have a crush on Pee Wee's girl Elizabeth aka E.G. Daily. Pretty sure she had a crush on me too 'cause she would always surprise in the dollar bins.

I would ask where she is now, but IMDB says she's doing voiceover work. Apparently she was even in Wreck-It Ralph!

    KMD? Plaese to Splain?

He was on Stargate SG 1 as well. Pops and I used to watch that show every night.

He's around Toronto and, from I understand, doing studio stuff for other people now and then. He's also involved with a bunch of fundraising for cancer after he lost his gf to it. He was a semi-regular at a reggae party I used to do the door for and looked basically the same a couple of years ago as he did 20 years ago, give or take a few adult man-pounds.

Vanilla Ice was already around when Snow had his moment.

Matter of fact, Ice may have been on his way out.

if this is true, it doesn't bode well for me. i ran into DARRIN [yep] at my friend's irish pub round the way. he was presumably just out for pints with a kinda ordinary lookin' lady and a really big friend-ployee. he was in the snug next to ours [those cubby-like spaces in a pub] and was extremely personable and forthcoming despite the large escort and the implied desire for privacy of sitting in a private area. once he saw how awesome we were, he came around for pints and a chat. we didn't approach him, or even ask to take the standard luke perry-embrace photo-op.... which made him either very comfortable with us or very insecure about us not making a big deal. i suppose the former.

i did, however, tell him that it was worth having the police take me to the station and black up my hands, just for hanging with the snow man.
