"Pimp Of The Year" in the top 10 was a good look.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • on the dru down note, im totally hooked on "hello hello"

  • It's a good list.

I would've chose some different shit, but I can't really hate.

Staley I believe said himself that this was basically impossible to do... I'm not mad at it.

    NOT ENOUGH KEMETIC SUNS ;-)

  • For what it's worth:

    Cities Of Dope

A live mix of Bay slap, a lot of underground and tape-only business sandwiched between the requisite turfy mobb hyphy shit.

"California Love" isn't a Bay Area record in any way shape or form

  • Surely you jest!

putting up "lets get a telly" and not "sick wit this" is fucking retarded.
i'm happy he's up in the list, but jacka's "glamorous lifestyle" should have been up there instead of "barney" imo.
hammer was a smh move, but "let's get it started" is bay-er than "can't touch this".

others of note that was missing from the list:
    get my money on
    crack raider razor
    many clouds of smoke
    talkin bout bank

and personally, i think "dope fiend beat" is the definitive short track rather than "freaky tales".

"i'm too short baby. way too cold. so motherfuck. you. bitch. gad. damn. ass. hole!!!!"

  • Dopefiend Beat is an absolute omission (having other $hort songs doesn't make it better)

APG not being on the list is fucking criminal.

i agree... where the hell is APG?!?!

plus, where is Scanlous from IMP? Frisco is nice but cmon now... nothing is better than Scanlous. that shit makes me want to merk fools REAL bad.

Somehow, I knew J had posted this even before I read the thread.

I was confident these three would be on the list (or at least something by the Whoridas if not "Talkin' 'Bout Bank"). But I guess none of them can compare with Lil B

  • is there also no mention of 415? i think its a pretty good list as far as lists go tho. kinda backpack lite, at least give it up to that charisma/pbw ep.

also, black dynasty deep east oakland.

    and whoriden! come on dudes!

    FAT OFF THE COCONUTS

    GUUT GOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!

Wait.......Whoridaz didn't make the list???? ...wow

    b/w

I'm going to assume they confused Cuss words with Dope fiend beat

    this.

    No 415? Can that be?

I might could have to retract my earlier quasi-approval of this list.

whoa... there is no 415?!?! this list is bullshit to the fullest. they put that fucking Vans song on there and not 415?!?! who is this guy who wrote it? is dude even from the bay or been here?

  • J, chill.

Given how rich and diverse Bay Area rap music is, there was no way anyone could have made a list that would please anybody. I could quibble with some song choices but overall I think it was really solid.

FWIW, the dude who put it together is from the Bay, although I think he lives in NY now. He's the main person behind this blog: http://nationofthizzlam.blogspot.com/

And also-- Shinin' Star > Scandalous.

  • Yeah I'm not totally mad at it. The (young) fella who did it is solid. There are some glaring omissions though, and the list skews very much towards more recent fare, or conversely, older material by current-ish artists like Mac Dre or E-40. And absolutely no underground shit although that's an argument in and of itself.

    Caaaaandy paaaaaint, peeeanut butttaaaaaaaah

  • You have to admit that any "Top 50 Bay Area Rap Song" list just begs for record hateurs. And while my list would look different from his, I'm mostly grateful that no one tasked me with this thankless assignment.

Having said that: "Can't Touch This"?
