others that should have been mentioned when talking about bay rap:
ant
pooh (especially "fuckin with dank")
seagram ("fuck you fools mind ya own! take yo fo twenny five paid ass home!!!!!!!)
c-bo & hung (yeah sac, but whatever)
also this might be a far stretch for the list, but what about hugh e mc?
as far as hammer...shit, i would rather have premo up in that list:
from the bay and with his thizzlenation website im still disappointed that someone trying to rep the top 50 bay songs cant include two of the most important rap groups (with many offshoots mind you) to come from here.
i do agree with a lot of the stuff dude put up and i liked his little write ups as well (though i would duck and cover about his "no good rappers ever came out of Sunnydale" line). i also agree that no one could get it right (i would of included more 90s records but thats cause im old and stopped listening to a lot of this stuff post 2000). so right on for doing it!
just saying... dudes from here and couldnt get it right on those two and thats wack to me.
say what you want matthew but ill comment HARD on anything bay area related. ive lived it, worked it, owned it and talked about it my whole life. ill make my 6th generation SF kids know about it too...
Given how rich and diverse Bay Area rap music is, there was no way anyone could have made a list that would please anybody. I could quibble with some song choices but overall I think it was really solid.
agreed.
quotes from the blog: "There will be plenty for readers of this blog to disagree with, and I'm curious to hear feedback. These lists are complicated things, guys.
No, Team Knoc didn't make the cut, but "Fruity Pebble Punk Rock" was on my brainstorm list. With all the press Lil B is getting these days, someone's gotta step up for them and point out that he didn't coin the word "Based" at all! "
fuck lil b, and is equipto on the list? i dont see it typed down on the site just this flash pic shit my old ass laptop cant compute ^^
I was a little harsh in my reply. Chalk that up to being old surly knowing too much and having a newborn in the house. I still stand by my post but would have been nicer in my wording.
Just to rephrase a little nicer Matthew, to me, missing those groups in this list, it's like if you didn't put freaky tales on the too short mix. Just wouldn't be right.
But hey maybe all those post 2000 tracks really are that important to the bay area sound. What do I know?

12. 2Pac f/ Shock G and Money B -- "I Get Around"

3. Rappin' 4-Tay -- "Players Club"
2. Too $hort -- "Cuss Words"
1. Luniz -- "I Got 5 On It"/ "5 on It" remix
Should probably be Dopefiend Beat instead of Cuss Words.
Might need to have Dusted and Disgusted in there...Mr Flamboyant as well.
Mac Mall's Sic Wid This. JT and Mac Mall's Game Recognize Game remix as well.
Makes no sense that neither Bammer Weed nor Back to the Hotel aren't top10.
RG - most of those tracks are on the list, just not in the top 10.

Cool...I can't bring myself to scroll through those horribly designed articles, so I only had the top15 list to go by. I hadn't read all the replies on here either before rplying myself, and it's cool to see that a few of us wound up mentioning identical ommissions. BAY AREA POWERS ACTIVATE!
