Can we rap about Teflon Don?

Banging album, although a little short at just 11 tracks.

Don't really care for "I'm Not A Star", kind of flat, sounds like it got cut from Trilla.

"Free Mason" is cool, but not as epic as it could have been.

Love what No I.D. did on "Tears of Joy" (Prelude to a Love Theme, Foxy Brown) with the 5th bar in a 4/4 track. Unconventional, works really well. Cee-Lo's chorus cameo is out of this world.

"MM III", as discussed, super lush and just about overdone. Gotta love Justice L.E.A.G.U.E. making beats with that level of musicianship.

"Live Fast, Die Young" grows on you. Kanye straight mashed the beat.

Really prefer the "Super High" remix to the original on the album. Ross' verses are boring in comparison to what Curren$y and Khalifa put down.

"No. 1" is a club-friendly joint and actually not terrible. Pretty sure I hear Diddy popping ad libs in the background. Thankfully his vocal input is limited on this album.

"M.C. Hammer" & "B.M.F.", both produced by 19-y.o. Lex Leuger, are the driest beats of the bunch, but get the most hype.

"Aston Martin Music" is decent for the Drake-friendly.

"All the Money in the World", "first time singin', so you gotta turn that b***h up!"

"I'm Not A Star" was a really good way to set off the album, good energy.

"Free Mason" was good, liked Jay's verse alot.

"Tears of Joy" might be my favorite song of the year, really great Cee-Lo chorus.

"MM III" worst one out of the trilogy, everhyone sounds equally bad, beat does nothing for me

"Live Fast, Die Young" i liked this alot, the chorus was a bit grating at first but i've grown to like it

"Super High" sounded good to me, haven't heard the remix yet though

"No. 1" Is a turd, worst song on here

    "M.C. Hammer" is just o.k

"B.M.F." I like this one a bit more than M.C Hammer"

"Aston Martin Music" is alright, the chorus is kind of lame, good beat though

"All the Money in the World" is cool, don't like saadiq on here as much as i would've wanted to

    2.5/5 stars

Deeper Than Rap > Teflon Don > Trilla

  • Did not disappoint at all with replay value. When I started it I was closer to 'freestyle was better' but just get past say that corny J track and it gets better (Hov we still don't care about that stupid rumor B/W no more JL 3rd quarter hooks, pls god...I much prefer the Raphael Saadiq appearance)...best new rap in a minute.

  • When I turn on the radio, I hope that I'll hear "Super High". I haven't heard it much lately, I wonder if the radio has dropped it from the playlist? I've only heard the MC Hammer song once, but I thought it was such a funny concept. "B.M.F." I hear much more. It sounds like the same song but not as funny.

So far none of you have rapped. Misleading thread title.

I went to FYE to cop that Teflon Don
Popped the cd in the player of my blue Scion
Word on the street is that this be the jawn
11 tracks deep let that heat flame on
Track number 1 bumpin in my car's player
I'm like yo this beat is lush, it's got a lot of layers
I'm jumpin in the air like my boy Leo Sayer
Cot damn that Rick Rowse and all his facial hayer.
Track number 2, yo I had no clue
This shit be banging like a 'rilla in the zoo
The drums be slamming, programmer on Emu?
I need to play along so I grab my kazoo.
Track number 3 in the place to be
My favorite track on the whole cd
Roll up the windows so nobody can see
So damn happy that I just went pee
Track number 4 I opened up my door
Damn Ricky rowse I can't take it no more
Since when they sell dope at the music store?

And so on. Rap your post or your change the title of this thread.

    Haven't heard this cd yet.

    Haven't heard this cd yet.

You have better lyrics than Rick Ross.

The whole album is highly professional but on first listen left me cold apart from Tears Of Joy which I thought was fantastic. I realise that I'm in a minority of one but I actually enjoy each Ross release less than the previous one.

Polished to the point of no noticeable character.

  • haven't had a chance to give it a good listen. i'm gonna work on that. "m.c. hammer" was my least favorite on the e.p., when i found out it was going to be on the album, i was hoping he'd re-work it. he didn't really, except for tacking on a mediocre gucci verse. the concept of the track had potential.

anyway, if you actually care about ross's authenticity issues, speak up now. convince me that said concern is not just a music blogger/journalist creation.

    1. the song should be called Aston Martin Music Music
    2. why does it sound like Drake is about to go into a verse infront of every Ross verse? (i know the with-a-drake-verse version is out there, but that doesn't mean they couldn't edit the take that made it on the album)
    3. super high remix > (teflon don - tears of joy)

I found this album to be very boring. I really can't get into Rawse's swagger.

Also, Aston Martin Music >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Maybach Music.

  • i fucking hatt this album. i can't believe people are riding harder for this than deeper than rap! i feel like i'm crazy after reading the reviews -- i've gone back and listened to it a few times -- every track is skipable.

I like how on one track he notes that while he has opted not to invest in life insurance his jewelry is fully insured, and then a few tracks later he's boasting about how his Vacheron is not insured.

Help a young boss out: is insuring one's jewelz the player way or not?

I just caught a second reference to not purchasing life insurance

Boasting about not making sure your kids are taken care of is really a whole new level of decadence

    I love it

I'm pretty sure he has life insurance coverage through his prison guard union benefits.

Maybe he's tucked away part of his riches to ensure his kids are taken care of.
