I have been waiting for someone to speak on this

He seems to have taken a wrong turn in terms of his personal style since his second retirement

...not content to rest on his work to help make bald cool, I guess?

  • The first time I saw the commercial I thought that it was a Hitler mustache, but then I said, "Hanes wouldn't associate Fascism with comfortable underwear." But I do agree. After his second retirement, his reputation went downhill. That Hall of Fame speech just topped it off.

Seriously--who was asleep at the wheel on that one?

As for Jordan, I like to think he's having an "I'm Keith Hernandez" moment. Like, "Watch, I'mma rock this Hitler 'stache, and nobody's gonna do shit about it because I'm Michael fucking Jordan."

Does a Soulpatch negate a Hitler Stache?

    Seriously though, this is weird.

I'm sayin' though! He's just trying to reclaim it, just like we should be reclaiming the rainbow from

By the way, I'm pretty sure that headline was an intentional and not-so-obvious nod to those who will get it.

Ha ha -- I remember seeing those jeans when everyone started talking about his new lady. I was like, Fine he's dating a white woman, but what about them jeans?

And frankly, it's surprised me how long as it's taken folks to make the Jordan-Hitler link. Comfortable underpants for all is clearly the first step toward socialism and then fascism.

Well, it's about time he crossed-over. You know successful, Black athletes have to have a White woman. She's a cutie so at least he came correct, whereas some brothers bag White girls that White guys don't even want! There's another side of this coin, though, but I'm not going there. I'll hint, some sistahs can be on some other shit, and my wife (who is Black and STRONGLY identified with her race), has pointed this out too (I'm Black as well, for those who don't know). She totally co-signed "Diary of a Tired Black Man" (movie) and its stance on the above topic. I'm just keeping it real. But anyway, that's probably another thread.

Plus, as any pimp will tell you, it's easier to keep a white woman in check!

Please don't shoot the messenger, folks!

    Barf.

Admittedly, I only have the internets to go by; for the most part, you seem to be a decent guy. But every now and then, you post some totally backwards bizarre shit.

(I would take it for a joke if not for the don't shoot the messenger line. Please, correct me if I'm wrong)

    Hey Herm,

This isn't really what I meant, just that some sistahs bring the drama, so White women (and other race-ethnicity women) become other options (if I hadn't met my wife, I was headed this route in all likelihood). This comes from a number of family/gender dynamics that are beyond discussion on Soul Strut. Some of these brothas can be on some other shit too, so it's a two-sided coin. My wife and I discuss, and agonize, over these and other issues of our people all the time. Oh well, carry on...

Ha ha! I've been known as the type to say/do some
totally bizarre stuff at times just to throw folks off balance! I really am harmless though.

If Rey posted what I think he posted, that's precisely what I had in mind when I wrote what I wrote. Sad, twisted and totally racist, I agree, but that skit isn't the first time I've heard that message/belief from pimps, macks and normally "normal" Black men. Black women as well, which
    includes my ex.

I honestly think this speaks more to the "take no sh*t" attitude some strongly-identifying Black women have then it does to any perceived weakness white women have. (That might be the "other side of coin" Stacks didn't want to touch.)

Did my explanation just make it worse? I hope not. But you know how sensitive these issues can be.

Edit: That should read "as well as 'normally' normal" not "and." iPhone typing again.

I'm not even going to get into the race thing.

The seamless leap from Jordan's GF to women as property to illustrate and categorize women as being - and needing to be? - varying degrees of submissive was particularly distasteful.

Please, e-friend, tell me about keeping women in check.

There is only one logical reason for MJ to have a Hitler mustache.

He's trying to nail Sandra Bullock!

    Hey,

I'll give a brief synopsis of "the two-sided coin" of which I spoke. A sizable proportion of Black women in this generation, and the previous one, were raised without fathers. Often, positive relationships with the opposite-sex parent, especially for women, is a strong source of self-esteem. Then, single-parent, Black mothers often are disparaging of Black men, which follows from being abandoned with a child (hence, the one-parent household). So, in the young, Black female, she is likely insecure, and therefore vulnerable, and has a negative view of Black men (which also follows from poor behavior on some Black men's part; to be discussed below). This leads to overcompensation to counteract her deep-seated weakness and vulnerability (i.e., the "strong Black woman" type). A mentality such is this explains why she is prone to self-destructive behavior in relationships (e.g., allowing unprotected sex, resulting in unwanted pregnancies, allowing domestic abuse, etc.). Her over-compensating "tough woman" behavior alienates a lot of Black men (especially good brothas me who have their shit together), which only reinforces her negative view of Black men. Some of us, on the other hand, pursue women from other races to avoid this type of drama.

On the other hand, a lot of Black men in this generation have been raised by single-parent mothers. As a consequence, he has lacked a true father figure to act as a role model and teach him appropriate male behavior (e.g., providing for his family, respecting women, being responsible, etc.). Plus, Black boys need that strong father role filled to teach them respect for authority, since a good father will demand that his children respect him (and others as well). By contrast, the Black, single-mother is less willing (and unable fully, in my opinion) to compensate for the lacking strong, male figure in the boys' lives. Mothers tend to be more permissive than fathers who will hold your feet to the fire. Also, these are the same single-mothers that disparage Black men, so the Black boy also grows up with lacking esteem. Furthermore, the boy's peer group tells him that being a man is having all the girls, or being "hard", as opposed to forming stable relationships, uplifting his community (starting with his family), and so on. So, the Black boy behaves in an impulsively, promiscuous way and/or deals with difficulties with others through violence, or being aggressive in some manner. Therefore, he becomes destined to have babies out-of-wedlock, shirk responsibility, and/or live an unsavory lifestyle that leads to disenfranchisement, prison, and/or premature death. THE END.

    Peace,

Yeesh... I was just piggybacking off the other statement and playing off of a skit from an album that was heavily discussed here. Rey "got" it. Stacks seems to be speaking to what I'm speaking to in my clarifying statement.

But with all due respect, I refuse to get into some tired, pointless argument that leads people to believe that I actually agree with the stupid shit I joked about. I'll save that for the rest of the wheel-spinners. I respect and admire women and have never tried to "KEEP a woman in check" (yes, I have put PEOPLE - women AND men - in check when it was necessary but rest assured that my ass has been put in check many a time.) I'm sure that's all some blahblahblah to you 'cause I get the impression that my silly attempt at humor as well as whatever outlandish shit I may have said in the past outweighs any decency I may have shown, but f it. La schmoove...
