I just saw it last night at a screening. I thought it was great but I'm a Bond fan so I love anything they put together. I certainly thought it was better than any of the later Bronsan Bond films. I love Halle Berry but Die Another Day was terrible. Excuse my while I make my car invisible.b, 21b, 21I'm curious to know what other Strutters think. Even if you aren't Bond fan it's a great action movie.

  • I'm going to see it tonight and am super excited. Like i was saying in my stupid duplicate thread, I was surprised at how good Casino Royale was and if he plays the role the same way, I think Daniel Craig's Bond has the most depth out of all of them and could easily become my favorite one. b, 21b, 21With Casino Royale it seemed like they stripped down the Bond movies to be more rugged and raw, surprisingly kind of emotional in a restrained way, and less gadget-obsessed. it reminds me of the same path the Batman movies took when Joel Schumacher made it all cartoonish and Gotham looked gaudy instead of grimy. Then the much needed Bale Batman movies came out and were dark and understated and so much better in comparison.

I think they forgot to write a script for this one. Nice action scenes, but a bit boring IMO.

That last Bond was kind of boring to me. I don't really remember anything about it though. Its like, I saw it and instantly forgot about it.

  • Im not a new Bond fan but i like the idea where theyre gradually building him up to the gadjets and glamour of the other versions. b, 21b, 21Jason Bourne made the Bond franchise look in the mirror.b, 21b, 21The Olga actress is gettin work. I fisrt saw her in Hitman and i think she played another role as the "girl", before joining the Bond flick.

b, 21b, 21The Brosnan joints were embarassing--especially the one where he pushed the invisible whip.

I love the OG Bond movies, the Italian knockoffs and the new ones. My dad and I are seeing this tomorrow. Bond movies are supposed to and always have been mindless, unrealistic entertainment, so I don't care what the hoity-toity snob critics say.b, 21b, 21Worst Bond = George Lazenby. I met that guy at a celebrity convention several months ago along with some of the 60s Bond girls (Shirley Eaton, Lucianna Paluzzi, Gloria Hendry...all very nice women) and that guy is an enema nozzle of the highest caliber.

  • OMG. This movie was WEAK. I get no quantum of solace for my 6.50 I wasted or the two hours of my life I can never have back. James Bong.

Isn't that a toupee? I remember there was a quick shot of him falling off the staircase at the party where I saw something like a toupee fell off...I might be wrong because I was not feeling this reinvented "gritty and realistic" James Bourne, therefore I was not paying much attention to the movie.

  • i liked it.

b, 21b, 21I disagree. "In Her Majesty's Secret Service" is one of my fave Bond movies. He might be a enema nozzle in real life, but I like what he did with the character and it's a shame he didn't want to return to it. One of the best John Barry Bond scores too.

b, 21b, 21lolb, 21b, 21so I didn't think QOS was as focused as Casino Royale, but I still found it very entertaining and i loved the locations they chose. I can see a lot of Bond purists not feeling it and it's true that this one is a lot more like a Jason Bourne movie, which I don't have a prob with. I am feeling how scrappy this Bond is and I like that he can take a beating. Seems more human compared to the others.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service is severely underrated and Barry's score kills it. I am liking David Arnold's score in these last 2 movies too, they are the most memorable in the modern era. Nothing can hold a candle to Goldfinger in my book though. Moonraker too--the Space March off that ST is lovely. I love how the brass and strings in Barry's Bond scores are so florid and glamorous sounding and I think they are key in elevating James Bond to level badass. He's definitely one of my favorite film composers.

b, 21b, 21b, 21yea, story was kind of weak, but i was entertained and craig is such a smooth mf'er....i was especially feelin the sequence where he tells the hot british consolate what the deal is when gets off the plane, upgrades their hotel to some 5 star palace, and then just walks in the suite and basically orders her into the bedroom.b, 21b, 21b, 21 img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/the_mack.gif" alt="" 21

He doesn't order her into his bedroom, he was coy about it and asks her to help him look for stationary in his bedroom. This Bond seems so much less dirtbaggy when it comes to women, probably cause of all the baggage regarding Vesper Lynd.b, 21b, 21The action sequence at the beginning with the rope and falling planks of wood was my favorite. The plane one was ridiculous though.

Ordering a woman into the bedroom is not Bond's style. seducing by means of flirtation/charms, yeahb, 21b, 21It's the same kind of playfulness as in Casino Royale when he asks that woman outside the hotel if she wants to have a drink at his place and then drives in a circle to the same spot where they were standing.

I liked it, but thought Casino Royale was better. I like the turn with the new Bond as well. First, the guy actually gets cut and bruised after fights. He's also more gritty, and the liscence to kill, actually means the dude kills just about everyone he runs into. The dry humor that went with that was also entertaining. It also got into character and motivation a lot more on this one.

Off the New Statesman website.......b, 21b, 21Has Evo Morales found a new comrade in 007?b, 21b, 21The plot of the Quantum of Solace makes reference to a real struggle carried out by the social movements of Bolivia - but it wasn't an action hero that secured changes, it was ordinary people.b, 21b, 21A rusty pipe hangs from an improvised water tower, and drips miserably into the desert air. A crowd of simple-looking people in traditional Andean clothes, their dark faces furrowed with worry, surround it with empty buckets and containers, waiting for the water to come gushing out, but the pipe has run dry. They turn away in dismayed resignation.b, 21b, 21This is one of the silent set-pieces in the new Bond film Quantum of Solace, set in Bolivia, which takes as its inspiration the struggle to control water and other natural resources in the developing world. Bond is on a mission to stop a faux-environmentalist billionaire from secretly appropriating all of Bolivia???s water supply by replacing its left of centre president with a handpicked despot, in a coup which the USA blithely ignores.b, 21b, 21As in most Bond films, the ???Bolivian??? extras (no footage was shot in Bolivia) provide a voiceless, picturesque background against which the heroics can be played out. The plot of the film makes reference to a real struggle carried out by the social movements of Bolivia to resist privatisation of water supplies, and while it is broadly sympathetic, it is also based on a central conceit: that the Bolivian people need the intervention of a suit-clad British action hero to save them from grasping transnationals and corrupt governments.b, 21b, 21However, recent history in Bolivia contradicts this: the long struggle to reclaim sovereign control over natural resources has been fought by everyday women and men, through direct action and democratic participation, and control has been won with nary a high-octane plane chase in sight.b, 21b, 21One can???t help imagining an alternate version of the scene described above, which would more closely reflect the Bolivian reality. The conversations happening underneath the plaintive music might go as follows. ???Compa??eros???, an old lady might shout, ???the transnational has taken our water! Something must be done!??? More voices rise in protest, ???A march on the capital! We should blockade the road! Demand a meeting with the President! This cannot continue!???b, 21b, 21In this astonishingly politically active country, this would be a standard response, not muted resignation. Grassroots-led protests stopped the privatisation of water in Cochabamba in 2000, marking a significant point on the journey to power of current President, Evo Morales. Under his watch, the Bolivian constitution has been rewritten to include access to water as a basic human right, and this stands to be passed into law in January 2009.b, 21b, 21As for attempts to topple his government and install a business-sympathetic autocrat, this would meet with short shrift in today???s South America, even if the depiction of the US authorities covertly supporting the coup skates uncomfortably close to reality.b, 21b, 21After a wave of violence in September which various international bodies recognised as an attempted coup d???etat, the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) threw their weight behind Morales in a resounding declaration of solidarity.b, 21b, 21They recognised that he was recently affirmed in his post by 67 per cent of the popular vote, and stated that any attempt to destabilise or overthrow his government was anti-democratic and would not be tolerated.b, 21b, 21When the villains in Quantum of Solace affirm ???we have twenty neighbouring governments ready to recognise the incoming administration as legitimate???, it rings false.b, 21b, 21Not only has the Morales government secured natural resources for the benefit of the Bolivian people, but it has also cultivated a strong base of regional support which provides a counterweight to interventionism from the USA or elsewhere.b, 21b, 21Isolated left-wing governments falling prey to US-backed coups only to be replaced with bloody dictatorships? Too bad the updated Bond didn???t take into account the political changes in Latin America: like his martinis and speedboat chases, the plot of Quantum of Solace all looks a bit dated.b, 21b, 21b, 21b, 21 img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headz.gif" alt="" 21

Yeah but I think there isnt enough info out there at the moment in regards to Evo Morales....thats why I threw it up, I personally think Morales is to South America what Obama is to North America... b, 21b, 21Also I think this Bond movie has the shittest name in history.... WTF is a Quantum of Solace anyways?
