font class="post"1b,121b,121Yeah man, you -- now get back there and cast some votes!
It's a net positive for Obama. McCain will appear serious in the eyes of his base, everybody else sees through it, my feeling is that they've got even worse numbers internally than we're seeing in the polls.b,121b,121Also, whoever mentioned Rick Davis is correct - that was going to be a BIG deal and they buried it. They also buried Obama/Biden's opposition to rerouting "Bridge To Nowhere" money to New Orleans so I'm breathing a sigh of relief there.b,121b,121This might've worked for McCain 6 months ago - but he's been pissing off the press for several weeks now. I don't think they give him a pass on this.b,121b,121Rootless doesn't know what he's talking about.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Your deference to the "gullible American electorate" is patronizing, elitist and is not doing Obama any favors! [/snark]b,121b,121Honestly I think it's pretty apparent how this makes Obama look good. He looked presidential at his press conference. He went live, whereas McCain's was pre-recorded.1McCain looks like everything everyone's been saying about him for the past week (including many conservatives): he's rash, he doesn't think things through... he's not "presidential". Even conservative blogs like the National Review are saying this.b,121b,121Your posts seemed to indicate that you hadn't made up your own mind on whether or not this was a good reaction by Obama - you're waiting to hear what people you clearly don't respect think.. but so far the majority of Americans seem to want the debates to happen; that automatically puts Obama on the right side of the issue. Can't see how that's a bad thing.1McCain looks desperate.

Dems fight back (from the Washington Post) - b,121b,121Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) said McCain's move was "the longest 'Hail Mary' in the history of either football or Marys.'' The chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, which was holding a hearing on the bailout, added "I'm not particularly focused on Senator McCain. I guess if I wanted expertise there [from the GOP ticket], I'd ask Sarah Palin."b,121b,121Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada had a similar reaction. "It would not be helpful at this time to have them come back during these negotiations and risk injecting presidential politics into this process or distract important talks about the future of our nation's economy," Reid said. "If that changes, we will call upon them. We need leadership; not a campaign photo op."

This has to be a tremendously bad look to anyone who isn't already 1000% in the bag for McCain or willfully ignorant of the world in general. It looks cowardly. As it stands now it looks like NOBODY is going to give McCain a pass on this, and the Letterman thing may very well be the first major shovelful of dirt into the grave of the McCain campaign.
The Letterman thing seems significant because it won't exist in a vacuum...1This isn't some soulstrut dudes chatting or blogging. That will get play on every morning show, every newspaper, every MAINSTREAM media outlet in this country.b,121b,121The make-up application on a NYC News set is NAGL to saving the country....
Barney Frank for treasury Secretary?b,121b,121It is important that there be no bail out!b,121b,121Right now Dems are on board and Rs are rightly saying let the thing play out. Lets take our time and get it right. b,121b,121If McCain goes and pulls enough Rs on board to pass The McCain Compramise he will pull into Oxford MS the CHAMP!b,121b,121Bail out is a bad idea and dems need to bail out of the bail out now. b,121b,121This is Obama's chance to say Chill Out, I'll fix it after January 20th.
b,121???McCain is extremely fearful that basketball-loving Obama will challenge him to a game of one-on-one,??? says a campaign worker. ???With their present height differential, McCain would get his head handed to him. It might be enough to tip the balance in Obama???s favor in a close race.???

font class="post"1b,121b,121Craig Ferguson was having a LOT of fun at McCain's expense, it was very very funny.b,121b,121The Letterman thing ran on NBC (NBC!!) on the Today show in it's entirety! They devoted a lot of time to McCain running away from the debate, and McCain's spokesmodel was again repeating the talking points of McCain being a Maverick, a reformer blah blah blah while Obama's guy simply said that Obama was ready for the debate and the American people can decide if McCain is playing politics. They also ran a time table that clearly showed that McCain broadsided Obama after Obama called him at 9am, waiting to call him back at 2:45pm about the debate move, then going live before Obama could respond. 1It is so paper thin that even the GOP folks HAVE to be wondering WTF he is doing.1I mean, there is a good chance that something WILL be resolved by Friday on that bailout, and THEN what will McCain do? He's betting a lot on a cynical viewpoint that they will NOT work anything out. How is this helping the situation on Wall Street?
font class="post"1b,121b,121Yeah, he seems to be only inetersted in stumping for his Nobel Prize, not in helping Obama get elected, that seems clear as day.

I dissent people. The reason there was a great depression was because the flow of credit dried up. In order prevent that, there needs to be a bail out. On Wednesday it looked like Congress was not going to pass the bailout. McCain's decision to suspend, call a meeting in DC and move on, seems to have broken that deadlock. Yeah. b,121b,121Oh and hello Soulstrut nation.
