This was on the way down to fireworks on the 4th of July, in front of his kids and their mother (or grandmother). Tensions run high in these streets, mostly over bullsh*t.

  • if anybody does happen to ride the subway in Philly, whatever you do do NOT sit in the suicide seat like dude in the video. those are the seats where folls get beat down and robbed, because you're kinda trapped from both sides. i seent this dude rockin' some Cazals and a gold chain on the sub once years ago, and the dummy sat in the suicide seat... this crew had it all set up, right when the doors were about to open dude got it- POW- socked in the nose, cazals and chain snatched off and dudes jumped off the train and took off all in a matter of seconds. son was just sittin' there stunned... he didn't have a chance to do anything. never sit in the suicide seat if you ride the sub in Philly

  • b,121SEPTA hammer attack: Commuters say more security neededb,121b,121By Lisa Helmreich and Sam Woodb,121INQUIRER STAFF WRITERSb,121b,121Morning commuters on the Broad Street Line said they were shocked following the release of a surveillance video by police that showed a man attacking another rider on the subway with a claw hammer.b,121Central detectives last night released a tape shot last week aboard a subway car. A man and a little boy are seen standing in front of the subway car doors. The man gently kisses the boy on the cheek and directs him to an empty seat.b,121b,121Then the man reaches into a backpack, pulls out a hammer, and begins an unprovoked attack on a dozing rider.b,121b,121At least ten passengers watched the unprovoked attack. Not one lifted a finger to stop it.b,121b,121The bloodied victim, a 20-year-old lab worker on his way home from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, took another subway up to Temple University Hospital where he was stitched up and released.b,121b,121The assault was the first to be recorded by SEPTA's new electronic security system. Surveillance cameras have been installed in 37 of SEPTA's 125 trains. The entire fleet should be equipped with digital cameras by next year, said spokesman Richard Maloney.b,121b,121The attack had riders this morning questioning whether SEPTA has enough police working underground.b,121b,121Trisha Corko, at the Spring Garden station this morning, said she doesn't feel safe riding the Broad Street line.b,121b,121Corko said she just learned of the assault. She said had seen more officers riding the trains in recent months, following an attack in March that left a Starbucks worker dead in a Center City subway concourse.b,121b,121"But it's still not enough," Corko said of the additional officers. Asked if she would have intervened during Thursday's hammer attack, she demured, saying she would have to weigh her personal safety against any help she could have provided.b,121b,121Other riders echoed Corko's feelings.b,121b,121"You can never have enough security," said George Farrell, who takes the subway both night and day.b,121b,121David Kontts said he's ridden SEPTA for over 30 years and never had a bad experience. Then again, he said he's always cautious.b,121b,121Would he have jumped into the fray to stop the hammer-wielding attacker?b,121b,121"It would depend," Kontts said. "When a man is really angry and is hitting someone like that, it's probably better to call someone for help."b,121b,121Susan Crawshaw was horrified at news of the attack and shocked that no one intervened.b,121b,121"I can't believe nobody helped," she said. "I would have started yelling and screaming."b,121b,121SEPTA has been rocked in the last year by several high profile assaults. In the most notorious, Sean Patrick Conroy, a Starbucks manager, collapsed and died March 26 following a beating by truant high schoolers in a Center City subway concourse.b,121b,121In the wake of that attack SEPTA added 30 officers to the 60 already on duty between 2 and 5 p.m.

font class="post"1b,121b,121I don't know what a "suicide seat" is, but if you're referring to the (first) video, I generally try not to sit in any seat on public trans where my back is directly to the door. Lotta people have gotten shit snatched that way.

font class="post"1 b,121b,121h,121font class="post"1b,121b,121I can. People riding the train can't show the brainpower to not block the doors when people are trying to get out, this is no surprise that people could care less about some young guy who is getting beaten. A similar thing happened on a bus my sister in law was on last month up by Catholic U in NE DC. Thugs disabled the bus from the outside and demanded this kid they were looking to beat up. Everyone on the bus(including the driver) gave that kid up while a couple folks called 911. The general public will throw you to the dogs if it saves their skin, for real.

font class="post"1b,121b,121at least try to call the po-lice or somethingb,121b,121i know that sounds naive, but hey, "getting involved" doesnt always mean getting all Macho Camacho about the shit. whether you do something overtly or covertly, you DID something. they may have walked the Fusk away just so they could CALL THE AUTHORITIES TO LET 'EM KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING. not everything happens within camera range.

We all would like to think we would have intervened, but it's easier to say now than it is to do when a dude is wyling out with a hammer. b,121b,121Just sayin'.
