its not cool to make fun of someone spitting homophobic rhymes...just not cool.
Sorry, I am just not convinced that the dude is retarded...the "offscreen producer" reason he freezes up is the most plausible to me...any special ed specialists or CP experts in here that can read the dudes motor behavior and certify Eli is "special"?
I work with kids. I am very lucky, even though I am in a school setting I never have to deal with labels, autistic, mentally challenged, dyslectic... Sometimes volunteers will ask me why a child is this way or that, I tell them I don't know. For what we do it makes no difference.
I work with some kids from a lifeskills class. Back in my day we called it special ed. Bill Cosby did a routine about it.
You can never assume anything. One kid does not speak. He has poor motor skills and his jaw is slack. But he is smart, and hears everything you are saying and can read.
Any way, I was going to post this in the Are You Smarter than a 6 yo... Girl thread, her is:
A volunteer told me she was worried about possible abuse at this one 8yo girl from the lifeskills class house. The girl told her that her brother hit her mother and now the brother is in the hospital. So I talked to the teacher to see if they knew what was up.
The girl lives with her mother and her psychotic and often violent and suicidal brother. Her mother uses the daughter as a buffer between her and her son. Sticking this disabled child between them. 2 weeks ago the brother went nuts, grabbed the butcher knife. The mom said, little girl, you stay her with your brother while I call 911. Brother slit his wrists with his sister watching. She helped keep him alive until the police and ambulance came. This is extreme, but typical of her home life.
Another 2nd grader told me this a few weeks ago. "I am going to see my little nephew Friday for the last time, he is brain dead because me aunt isn't a good mommy and my mom and dad are separating." All in one breath, all true.
Those little girls are a lot stronger than me.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

I'm going to put my vote in as "No, it isn't funny". And that will go for the article itself and it's placement into this thread. But that's just me, I'm sure someone thinks it's hill'ar'ious (Jersey accent is a must on that one)....
All these people saying the "producer" called him offstage or whatever need to watch it again. Dude just stops rapping and then starts mouthing the sample from the beat until someone cuts the music. Then he's standing there like "..."
Paycheck already summed up this thread on the last page. It's obvious whoever put the video on youtube didn't do it to show how ill dude's 2 lines were. Come on now.

I think the dude's who put it on youtube are the dude's who created the show "Iron Mic". If you look at the person who put it up, all the other battles are on there (yes...I know I'm a loser, no need to point that out).
So, I think they were just posting it like they'd post any other of their battles.
I thought that it was dope that they let him perform and that one dude gave him the vote too.
They seem like nice dudes in my opinion...a little weird with the arms around dude...but nice enough...
EDIT: What the fuck am I talking about...I don't know why I thought the other battles were on the dude's site...forget I posted this...my apologies.

a family friend of mine works as a volunteer/part time teacher and she's got a bunch of stories just like this. as many as three life changing (for the worse) events thrown out in a single sentence. it's a completely other world for some of these kids.
All these people saying the "producer" called him offstage or whatever need to watch it again. Dude just stops rapping and then starts mouthing the sample from the beat until someone cuts the music. Then he's standing there like "..."
nah dude, he says n**** twice, then they cut him off one line after that. even sounds like he says "aight" a couple times as if he was talking to someone off stage. same thing happens at the end when he cusses again.

What? This is a dumb thing to argue over, but watch it again MAYNE. He just stops they don't cut his mic off or the song. And you can see him mouthing the "I" sample along with the beat as it plays. The other dude is also looking back and forth between him and the judges like he doesn't know what's going on.
The whole point I'm trying to make is, there's a reason why this is starting to go around and it's not a funny ass Rosie O'Donnel line.

it just wouldnt be soulstrut if someone or a group of people told somone else or another group they were wrong. Im chalking this up to soulstrut's common practice of self-righteous indignation.

My aunt was 54 when she passed away. She'd lived with our family her whole life because she was severely affected by her congenital disability - Down's Syndrome. People were usually accepting of Virginia (and staring from folks was fine with me, as you don't see a DD person every day), but the odd few that laughed at her made me angry like nothing else.
Ever have to change the diaper of a fifty-year old adult? Ever have to witness the mental erosion of someone you love? These events change hearts and minds. I wouldn't expect anyone else to understand my displeasure regarding this exploitative video, but the fact that I find it disgusting is entirely justified.
I'm curious to know people's thoughts on Wesley Willis.
Never really been a fan of Wesley Willis but I do love me some Daniel Johnston. His handicap has become intertwined in his music and notoriety, however it works well for him giving his music an innocence and charm that I totally get into.
I have a feeling that some people may see the same in Wesley Willis, while other "fans" may just be laughing at him
i'm curious to know people's thoughts on wesley willis.
I like Wesley Willis. His music is so intense. Same with Reh Dogg. After listening to that Eli dude a gang of times, I don't think he's bad rapper. When his flow is on & his mic/music isn't cut, I think he sounds like those mathmatical rappers or one of those project blowed guys. I'm not a huge lover of that style, but get in where you fit in. That Rosie line is flames & better than anything that came out the mouth of "Envy". The only thing I remember about that dude is that he said "Uh-huh","Gyeah" or something like, 50 times before he started rapping.
Holy shit! You guys are like f*cking 4 years late with this shit. And just to clarify, its f*cking hilarious. What really hilarious though is how touchy feely marvo is with the contestants.
But fine, I guess its mean to laugh at mentally challenged kids, but how many times do they try to enter a rap battle? You might feel bad about it, but I challenge any of you to not laugh at the cat on the grill remix.
...that someone here would inevitably get the knee-jerk impression that this is some sort of slam on the mentally retarded, despite that the guy in the video is obviously fully aware of what he's saying.
Real talk, my girl deals with these exact type of kids day-in and day-out so if you only knew how bad they have it you would give two shits and more imporantly and hopefully, CARE. She deals primarily with a lot of kids from straight-up broken homes in a school district that's a joke and on top of that that kids all STRUGLE with mild to severe emotional and learning problems. Sweet kids who I hear all about and have interacted with.
All of that is unfortunate, but don't you think it's a little telling of your own preconceived notions to assume (I'm combining your last 3 posts here) that he's from a broken home, he's "shuffled around" in school, or is in some other way getting *no* support?
I get what you're saying, and yeah, maybe he fits what your girlfriend sees, but maybe not. A family friend's nephew is like that. He's not quick enough to freestyle, but he gets what schooling he needs, and the kid is included in everything going on just like everyone else in the house is. And I can guarantee you if people were freestyling and he wanted to, he would be right up there with them. And I can also guarantee that if he said he wanted to freestyle on a public access tv show they would sure enough take him.
So I point out your own preconceived notions because outwardly the kid I know looks just like the guy on the video - mentally challenged black teenager dressed like a normal person. He lives in the city and guess what - he's fine.
And unless you know something we don't know, that's all you have to base your ranting on - he's (probably) a mentally challenged black teenager freestyling on public access tv.
If you want to get pissed at people for laughing at the guy because he's retarded, fine. But you can't shit all over everybody because "maybe" he's like the people your girlfriend deals with 3,000 miles away.

daaaaamn, i was indeed laughing but when the heart comes on at the end, that was fuuuuucked up how they had him doing the corky.
in the original, the judges deserve some praise...i mean everyone involved in this adventure is noteworthy. Marv-o the molester! and i cant tell you how many corny ass Envys there are running around high school hallways looking for cipher training grounds. the judges though..."both of them did good, but i give it to envy cause he did great." well, thanks for breaking it down like that!
all in all, i'm sure Eli is happy that the clip is on youtube and a million people have seen him rhyme. "you need to get in the shade...no wonder he came out, hes already in the gay parade!" HAHAHAAA.
i never allowed cursing in my room in the high school and you dont know how many times id have to step to kids and they were like "I said SHIP!" and "I said FREAKIN!" uh huh, sure. it would usually make me laugh though

Your observation skills are keen. Too bad you can't pick up the on the nuances of discrimination. All this whining about high horses just proves your lack of comprehension and confirms your little dude status. This video is just another example of how society discriminates among the disabled, the poor, women, people of color, and homosexuals. While soulstrut commonly acknowledges blatant discrimination based on race as despicable, we need to think more about how our actions disempower those around us. It's discouraging to watch the celebration of privilege around here.
