thanks again for the recommendations, I'm checking some of these out. But are any of them in the downtown area? I'm staying at 2nd and San Jacinto so I'm very near most of the film venues and there are tons of restaurants around, but most of them seem pretty corporate and/or corny.

Not afraid of a long walk... although sometimes my window of time for a meal is tight?

Oh, and is the food served by Alamo Ritz any good? the idea of falafel and a beer over a movie sorta appeals to me since we don't have that option in Bmore, but sometimes theatre food is a l'il on the
    side.

None of those are downtown. Here are a couple other recommendations.

    Thai Passion
620 Congress (the entrance is on 7th street just west of Congress)

    Pita Pit
    619 Congress

Do go check out a movie at the new Alamo Drafthouse at the Ritz. They have good food and a decent beer selection. It isn't the cheapest place to eat but I think it is worth it.

    Thanks!

Yeah, the drafthouse is one of the main venues for the festival so I've already seen 1 movie there and will see several more... was just wondering if their food was decent, and glad to hear that it is. that'll make my life a lot easier actually being able to fit meals in as I watch some of my movies.

If you haven't heard, SXSW releases a bunch of music each year for free from artists participating in the conference. The 2008 torrent file as well as previous years torrents are available at this URL:

    http://hewgill.com/sxsw/

The 2008 torrent is 3.5 GB, so lots of new music for your listing enjoyment.

I haven't downloaded it yet but thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone wanted to grab it.

Me too, my man. Everything is fine over here, just an unfortunate series of events.
It sucks, but shit happens and you have to make the best of it. I hope you guys have a good time.

That shit had to be pretty incredible...

my homie got into that, I was running late, but he said High On Fire murdered that shit. I guess Motorhead was good but not amazing, mostly got 40 year old metal fans excited.

  • Holly shit.. I got wasted last night... My friends got me into the Ticketmaster house... I then began to drink beer after beer... I never want to see another Lone Star in my life! shit, I had those in my bag running aroung drinking in the street. I got hooked up with a vip pass to EMO's and also found myself at Beauty Bar.. Yo Cosmo... I think I ran into you there... I was hammered though. ALL in ALL a great trip.. I had no problem getting into any shows I wanted to see. I wish I could stay for the rest of the shows, but back to LA i go. I also think I picked up the flu.. feel like shit. Peace

Manic episode, psych meds and a little alcohol.

I saw the mic was open in between bands. I went up and spit a few minutes before the mic was cut. I walk off stage. Not long afterward I get the escort out and told I am banned for life.

Me and the mic is like Pookie and the pipe, I'm a fiend.

    Using Graemlins.

    I was a little mentally . Meds and booze left me . . I saw a mic and thought . . They They weren't . They told me to . . I said, .
