    ha.

There have been two different occasions at two different jobs where I got called into HR or the bosses office thinking I was going to get the ax and got a promotion. Last time I this happened it was a pretty damn significant raise too. This world that commands 40 hrs of my life each week is pretty

If it were me, I'd be paranoid. Not once in my entire employment history have I been summoned to HR for anything other than a layoff.

in my experience, a late-afternoon friday meeting with HR is not so good.

I know Big Brother can monitor online use, but does anyone know of a person who actually got fired from using the net too much or surfing porn?

  • Yes. Several, and I have been reprimanded as well.

    unfortunately,

You should skip out of work all together on some kind of personal emergency so they reschedule that shit, than you can take the opportunity to feel it out and can ngaf for a bit next week with that swagger in your step and a new life on the horizon.

well it's at 9:30AM...the meeting request was like "we'd like to get some information and ask your opinion"...WTF is that?

I do spend a decent amount of time online, but nothing offensive or anything, I don't even check the board at work...I don't think I've done anything fireable but I guess we'll see...I've never been fired before!

i probably wouldn't be too worried about it then.

Could it have anything to do with your benefits or something? It doesn't seem like they'd be "asking your opinion" about firing you. I'm sure you'll be aight.

those are my thoughts. I get called in once every few months at random to discuss various shit... company shareholding, healthcare plan, 401k, you name it. It can be anything. I don't know where you work, but typically your boss should let you go, not human resources, right?

    regardless, good luck dude.

This thread proves how disconnected I am from office
life. I believed without hesitation you were telling
us that you had a meeting tomorrow with this guy:

Maybe they will be like "We were talking yesterday, and we wanted to know how you would FEEL about getting fired right now?"

Half my company (including me) got shitcanned yesterday, with no warning. Never saw it coming...

My advice, pack a flask, you just might need it.

I had the same thing happen at least twice too. I was sure I was in trouble for something and instead got a 3% raise both times.

Bosses really shouldn't do that though... IE "I need to see you, come to my office". Like they couldn't just say, "You're getting a raise, let's go talk about it".

This reminds me of a movie called American Job where this loser guy just goes from job to job and gets fired. Same guy who did American Movie.

At one point his boss makes him switch places with him and pretend that he is the boss. "Now what would you say to me in this situation". "I'm sorry we have to let me, uhm, you go". Dudes fires himself. Funny AND depressing at the same time.

Yep, the poor lad could have been picked out of a line up for "employee most likely to be viewing porn at work" as well. I also know a guy who cleaned offices and did something unspeakable with his vacuum cleaner but that's too off topic.

Back on to the subject, if they're asking your opinion then it would seem likely that there is either:

    a) Some kind of legal dispute between HR and another employee that they want to get your feedback on

    or

    b) They are looking at possible voluntary redundencies with pay offs and wanted to test the water with you

Good luck either way, on the plus side at least they didn't schedule it for Monday morning instead.
