There's a 45 by Bobby Byrd called I Need Help (I Can't Do It Alone) on King from 1970. There's also one by Lyn Collins Baby Don't Do It/If You Don't Know Me By Now on People from 75. Those are the only JB related 45s that have "Do It" in it that I have.

I'm not sure how definitive the Wikipedia JB discography is, but the song isn't listed on there.

    I'll bet it's some Phil Lehman hi-jinx.

  • The record is a mid-70s Jamaican 45 by an artist that just happened to be named James Brown.

Now that I take the time to actually look, I have that song on the Funky Kingston v. 2 comp (referred to as Soul Power on that site). It did seem vaguely familiar.

Make it ... Make it ... Make it one
Make it ... Make it ... Make it two

The song in question: James Brown "Do It" - Definitely not the hardest working man in show business.

isn't the version on the soulfire compilation all instrumental?
the jamaican/uk released tune (on ACKEE) has definitely some vocals/shouting/grunts/whatever on it...

Copy I saw was vocal with a somewhat instrument B side.

the flip "i like the way you walk" on the ACKEE label has vocals, it's a reggae soul tune!
the "version" on the soulfire/pure comp has no horns & really sounds somehow new!
also it is half a minute longer... anyway, imo both versions are great in their own way

I guess Ackee is the UK, the one I saw looked from the islands.
