I just "discovered" On the Beach recently,
and it has been killing it for me.
Zuma is quite good, too.
Everybody Knows
On the Beach
After the Goldrush
Zuma
Tonight's the Night
Bruce Berry was a working man
He used to load that Econoline van.
A sparkle was in his eye
But his life was in his hands.
Well, late at night
when the people were gone
He used to pick up my guitar
And sing a song in a shaky voice
That was real as the day was long.
Tonight's the night, yes it is,
tonight's the night
Tonight's the night, yes it is,
tonight's the night.
Early in the mornin'
at the break of day
He used to sleep
until the afternoon.
If you never heard him sing
I guess you won't too soon.
'Cause people let me tell you
It sent a chill
up and down my spine
When I picked up the telephone
And heard that he'd died
out on the mainline.

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
me too, and because when I was really young...under 5, I loved the song 'Pocahontas' and thought he was singing "Alice" when he said aurorabori-alis-
kinda like hearing your name on romper room or something except I never watched RR.
Anyways, that song and album will never leave my heart.
hes good but ive never found him to be essential by any means......
I really dig that tune
give "on the beach" a couple of listens. if you have already.... give it another couple of listens
plus he can shred like a demon!!!!
give "on the beach" a couple of listens. if you have already.... give it another couple of listens
:
plus Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
...can't fade Down by the River with the worlds greatest one note guitar solo....
Dude, ain't just a collectro. He bought 20% of Lionel and reportedly has made more money from that then anything else he ever did.
I'll ride for all the rarities on Decade. Even Richard Nixon Got Soul. Winterlong. Whew.
I also like:
If anyone likes On The Beach[/b], I highly recommend picking up the DVD-A version, which still can be found at a decent price. It's advanced resolution stereo, and since Neil Young hates the CD format, this is a version he approved of. I wish he had done a DVD-A for After The Gold Rush[/b], though.
The DVD-A of Harvest[/b], which also has a nice 5.1 mix, is worthy, although I myself got into the album much later than his other albums.
that one keeps rising to the top for me. you put the needle on, and BAM
"Sailing heart-ships
thru broken harbors
Out on the waves in the night..." (Tell Me Why)
The story I heard is that Neil got big time into trains because his autistic son loved them.
Apparently they had a very calming effect.
As far as his albums go, I say
Everybody Knows this is Nowhere is my fav.
Everybody Knows
On the Beach
After the Goldrush
American Stars and Bars
tough call though because he has a lot of incredible LPs
On The Beach
Tonights The Night
Everybody Knows...
Time Fades...
Zuma
He also gave that percentage to his son, so his son actually OWNS part of the company.
Huge respect for that move.
Zuma has always been a favorite of mine.
I lent this cd to a friend of mine. When he returned it he said it sounded like 50 minutes of Neil tuning his guitar. I can't say I agree. It was pretty funny though and I could see where he was comming from.
Plus the entire Buffalo Springfield discography (including the stuff on Decade like 'Down to the Wire')
Cortez the Killer is, uh um, ... but a record that for me is more potent when listened to in its entireity...
Everybody Knows and On the Beach are a close second and third...
Can't hate on Harvest though as that was an early favorite and still sounds suprisingly fresh despite constant rotation on any and every so-called classic rock station of the past 25 years... thankfully not a radio listener and not affected by the 'played out factor'... surprised no one has mentioned... strut goin against the grain?!? There's a reason this has been such an enduring listen... least of which may be "The Needle"...
Speakin of Harvest, I remember the 'rents bumpin this quite a bit when it came out and eventually came around on it...
Hearing an album fifty times plus can tend to illicit said reaction... IMO, Not a bad follow up at all...
Cannot fuck with Powderfinger.
Believe someone did but first mention of Powderfinger... HUGE on that track
