Not to mention he delivers it all basicly monotone. Anybody wanna break down the appeal for me?

ive never read that book. I guess im not a real head. Are you saying if i read it ill like lupe?
Burroughs wrote a book, cut it up by paragraph/line, threw it up in the air and put it back together however the hell it fell out.
That's what reading those above lyrics reminded me of.
It's all metaphors for different things. The disconnected can't relate so it's hard for them to discipher. Rap/hip hop has always been this way. That's the one thing that has made the music unique. The line where he says "Now let me put the streets down like steamrollers
With the CATS that push
40 oz. through the hood like King Cobras
See me sling soda"
He just said "Let me break down how alot of my peeps are on the block around my hood, selling or hustlein' like the dudes that push narcotics. See me sling soda -in other words "Cocaine". 40 z through the hood like king cobras. Two things come to mind with this one. " Sell dope like it was marketed to people such as the old beer KING COBRA or similar to how a snake waits and lurks then strikes at that rightful moment. But all explained to relate to how dope is slung or just straight hustlin'.
I't stupid but thats how rap has been!
yeah man, you kind of need the capacity for abstract thought and to understand some of his references. my personal favorite line:
Now I'm over the limp
Watch how they mugs drop when they see my Verbal's able
(That's the Usual)
i'm not gonna break it down but a dope usual suspects reference....
This is top floor, better look out before
Pennies from heaven is the same as the semi from the second - also dope
at least his plex phors take some amount of thought to decipher. far more artistic and interesting than:
Who the fuck you think you fuckin' with, I'm the fuckin' boss
Seven forty-five, white on white that's fuckin' Ross
I cut 'em wide, I cut 'em long, I cut 'em fat (What)
I keep 'em comin' back (What), we keep 'em comin' back
I'm in the distribution, I'm like Atlantic
I got them motherfuckers flyin' 'cross the Atlantic
I know Pablo, Noriega, the real Noriega
He owe me a hundred favors
I ain't petty nigga, we buy the whole thang
See most of my niggas really still deal cocaine
My roof back, my money rides
I'm on the pedal, show you what I'm runnin' like
When they snatch black I cry for a hundred nights
He got a hundred bodies, servin' a hundred lives
[Hook]
Everyday I'm hustlin'
(wash, rinse, repeat)
or
(Let's get it) Tonight I can't sleep--we livin' in Hell (Yeah)
First they, give us the work then they throw us in jail (Ayy)
Road Trip ya--I'm trafficing in the white
Please Lord don't let me go to jail tonight (Yeah)
Who Me?? I'm a Soul Survivor
Ask about 'em in the street, the boy Jeez a rida (Jeez a rida)
A hundred grand on my wrist, yeah life sucks
Fuck the club, dawg, I rather count a million bucks (Ayy)
[Chorus (Akon):]
If you lookin' for me I'll be on the block
With my thang cocked possibly sittin' on a drop (Now)
'Cuz I'm a rida (Yeah)
I'm just a Soul Survivor (Yeah)
garbage. and lupe's 1 verse is longer than these two combined.
listen, i guess i get the usual suspects one. but its still all messed up. I mean its always obvious what hes referencing, but he never really pulls it off in my opinion. Plus 9 times out of 10 they dont rhyme.
and the other one, things dropped from higher altitudes are supposed to be heavier? Ok, thats not actually true, but i guess thats what he was saying.
....oh ok, mugs drop.,...i get it. But it still doesnt sound cool. and it dont rhyme!
nah not really, those verses have a rhythm, a cadence to them, and they rhyme. They are in fact lyrics, not just a bunch of random words and associations.
true, i guess i can't say that...
I'm in the distribution, I'm like Atlantic
I got them motherfuckers flyin' 'cross the Atlantic
doesnt't rhyme...
but, i hear you though b. i'm not really riding for lupe so much as for lyrics that have some content and thought to them. lupe may not be saying anything but it was interesting enough for you to post it here. i haven't heard the lupe cut to comment on rythm and cadence but its easy to have cadence when your beat is 78 bpms and you're on some slow flow. but again, personal preference. these other lyrics are not challenging nor thought provoking and lack artistic integrity, thats all.
Rick Ross could be replaced by 100,000 other dudes. He is where he is because he's a bussiness man giving people what they want. Lupe may be nerdy as fuck, but at least he's original and getting by making the music he wants to make. That said, they both suck.
Shooterali, could you please explain what this section means:
It's so serious every time I write my John Hancock like
Could damn near see Detroit
Niggas is scared of heights
This is saran wrap and aluminum foil
Some potpourri, a little machine oil
I stack my paper and throw off my 6
It will be much more entertaining if the clueless old crusty white dude translates.
If I'm even close, dude is corn.
i think the end part is something about using potpourri and machine oil to mask the smell of the drugs you're rapping in saran wrap and aluminum foil.
Hey wait a minute, so "original lyrics with substance" = selling drugs and getting money. Wow.
Personally i prefer the rick ross line about atlantic better. Maybe you didnt fully grasp that one. Let me break it down. Atlantic is a record label, that does alot of buisiness giving artists distribution deals, Atlantic is also an ocean over which drugs must be flown in planes so that rick ross may distribute them. Thus the word takes on a double meaning.
now tell me how rhyming foil with oil is soooo much more advanced than that.
I predict his career will last just about as long as the "streetwear movement" though.
Could you dissect this line for me?
We never steal cars, but we deal hard
Whip it real hard whip it whip it real hard
I caught a charge, I caught a charge
Whip it real hard, whip it whip it real hard
Sorry, that part's got me
OK, ill try....lol
They own all of their flashy cars, they are not stolen as many police officers might suspect. They do however sell a large quantity of illegal narcotics which allows them to purchase said cars.
Consequently, the quality of cars that rick ross drives is exceptional. He also reccomends that you purchase a high priced luxury or sports automobile so that you might also drive around and be noticed for having such a nice car. In fact, he emphatically suggests that you do so.
Selling so much cocaine is a very risky enterprise. Openly flaunting material possesions aquired using money from the narcotics trade could result in an especially undesirable legal conviction. Not to worry however because Rick Ross will evade the authorities easily due to the increased speed of his very expensive cars. If you should find yourself in a similar situation, Rick Ross reccomends that you also use your very fast cars to evade capture. In fact, he emphatically suggests that you do so.
I dont even know how we got on rick ross exactly, is it cause i have him on a pokemon card in my avi? I dont think hes the greatest rapper either lol.
I also dont hear people talk about him like hes jesus to rap like motherfuckers are apt to go on about lupe.
...but WHY is that people are not feeling Lupe and prefer Ross when they know in real life they're closer to Lupe than Ross. I even predict that Ross is not eager to meet nerds, where as Lupe would kick it ith you any time. I'm even sure that some of you ould get slapped and humiliated by Ross when Lupe would tap your back whie drinking some soda with you (no homo), being all friendly and shit (unless you're Republican). I mean, I don't like him either. I'm not into heavy coke distribution, i look like a nerd, but i still prefer "hustlin'" over any Lupe track. Is that bad doctor?
Damn...where is that NateBizzo/Rick Ross pic when you need it??
This guy is right!
NERDS NEED TO STAY IN THEIR PLACE
