Next week The Center for American History at The University of Texas at Austin
is kicking off its new UT Videogame Archive with a party and fundraiser
at Richard Garriott???s (Ultima creator) estate on Lake Austin.

A week or so ago I was given a tour of the NCSoft offices here in Austin. Richard Garriott has around 100 old arcade games throughout the building. Every corner you turn around there is another classic game I used to play growing up. Seemed like it would be a really cool place to work.

I always gravitated to the crappy games that no one could suck at:

    rolling thunder.

Rolling Thunder, Joust and Popeye were my fave raves.

I remember a time when the dim lights and elecronic bloops and blips used to just send waves of excitement through my adolescent brain. There was nothing better than the smell of popcorn from the theatre across the hall while you wasted quarters at the Arcade at the downtown Mankato Mall.

One of, if not THE, best 2-players-as-a-team games EVAR.

My boy Syre and I used to be able to beat the whole thing on
one quarter each, white knuckles on the stick, sweat flying
as we screamed "I GOT THE DOUBLE ORANGE DOW CANNONS!!!"

It's kinda long, so you may want to open in new tab.
