smoking a little weed having a listning session friday evening i found that this lee gagnon record which i dissed right here on soulstrut some time ago is actually really dope

  • karlophonekarlophone 1,697 Posts
actually from the last 3 weeks, havent had a chance to get organizized till now.

^^ the oddball stuff. "de ventana" is spanish so i dont understand the jokes but i
bought it cuz it has cool incidental music between the humor. the 10" is amazing
harmony gospel. "Encounter" has hilarious quotes from teens and parents just
trying to understand each other, man.

^^ mark murphy is pretty terd-y to me except for the track "come and get me",
which was on somebodys mix recently. David T. has the 'hot fun in the summertime'
    cover.

^^ i know nothing of krieggsang, but it sounds pretty cool. the savage grace is
    sorta tepid but has moments.

^^ for some reason ive had a terrible time finding this olympic runners till now.
schott didnt live up to the bit of hype ive heard but i still like some of the
tracks. wolf moon is fun 'funk' on fungus!

^^ concious effort band is a 1980 small press canadian thing with some neat parts
here and there, overall a folk rock dealie. yellow hand is i think all covers but
its good stuff. i love the carlos malcom cover but this is pretty boring ska
overall. amazing this is the same guy as busting out of the ghetto. wazoo is very
    weird.

^^ i never find original fanias so this colon is a huge score for me. bottom left
is a very creepy cult record. took forever but i found the spooky Bonds i was
    missing!

^^ hamilton face band is a chanty freakout private press. i have the other cover
of el topo, this one is on Apple, i havent checked to see if the music is
    different yet.

^^ finally found the free design i could never turn up! is this the second hardest
to find save for the impossible last record that wasnt on project 3? the
mccartney soundtrack is pretty scarce, you can flip it fast if you find it. (im
    keeping it though)

^^ maybelle rock (with a hideous cover), plus 3 personal grails in 3 weeks, not
    bad.

Karlophone, nice digs there. You always get some cool shit man.

this is a combination of digs, trades, set sale schitt and ebay stuff lately

  • finally a south-seattle garage sale that was worth it....

    Image seems to be invalid.

Some stuff from the week - sorry so small,
but 85% of my finds have already been relocated
    to out-of-state storage spaces

Thx to JP for a couple of these, the Shadow Mann is pretty
cool, just took a chance on it blind. Floyd boot is pretty much
a grip-n-flip, but the Jake Holmes is a keeper - "dope" album.
How much does that JL Hooker LP cover look like the David Crosby LP?
The Hook hooks up with Bernard Purdie and brings the heat on yet
another strong late-60's effort ... never a dull record from him.

Also caught a super-clean copy of this classic:

How is the Nineteenth Whole LP?

Never heard it, but I'm a fan of Eastbound -
does it live up to the big pricetag?

I think it's one of the better Eastbound lps, simply because it sounds a hair different than the others - Wooten vibes etc - the other Eastbounds are basically just more expensive Prestige records - for example: 'Texas Twister' is a good listen, but it isn't particularly better than 'Spark Plugs' etc even tho it costs 5 times as much.

    thrift and flea finds:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

heaven & earth = female (sister?) fronted pop-psych/folk for fans of wendy & bonnie.
richard gilly is french pop with a good beat. like a mix of serge gainsbourg and donovan? the french donovan? pretty decent i think.
the staff = french new wave/post-punk. decent. not bad. not incredible, but kind of cool.
a couple of private rock turds in there too for resell.

rare led zeppelin 4-song ep in that picture.
earth base one is a private press lp that is a weird band to pinpoint. at points, funk, then disco, then aor rock, then modern soul. strange. anyone hear that one before?

however--my favorite find of this week is this----

OG late 70s Sims Lonnie T Skateb in superb shape!

    Strokes for folks...

Odub doesn't dig on Nineteenth Whole, but I'm with you, it's more interesting musically than your standards Prestige LP. That said I do also dig Texas Twister.

While I'm here I might as well mention I NEED BILL MASON - "gettin' off" in a big way. I've had many near-misses, even bought a copy online but it was thrashed, so I returned it.
