I actually do not have anything by Cassandra Wilson and am not familiar with her work. But if it's reviled by the Soulstrut Devils Club then it MUST be right up the alley of a mature, musically well rounded black man such as myself. I will now illegally download all of her cds, pour the Colt 45, light the scented candles and get ready for a night of rapture with my lady. Eat your hearts out, ofays.

    yup... EVERY time

  • cassandra wilson is a real jazz artiste who takes chances and always interprets uniquely (if not always succesfully). she can also sing in any style and chooses songs from country, funk, yacht rock, etc to cover.

diana krall on the other hand has nothing original to say and she is bland as fuck. somehow this got confused with being klassy. as if the world needs another version of "the look of love".

check out cassandra's version of the stylistics' "children of the night"

I own al least 7 to 10 Cassandra Wilson Joints and 3 to 4 Krall joints. The Krall came in handy for those Wedding gigs and ill rep for Wilson's late 80's/early 90's M-Base albums w/ Steve Coleman & Them before New Moon Daughter. Travellin Miles on vinyl is my shit.

Cassandra wilson is good, i saw her live after traveling miles was released and it was a powerful performance.

even my mom thought diana krall was boring.

word is krall is also a coke head

Diana Krall is Volvo Jazz. Cassandra Wilson is not. Dee Dee Bridgewater?

absolutely indoubtedly horrendous. she has no sense of timing, no rhythm and conveys as much emotion as a clam.

I'm sure Terry_Clubbup would object; don't front on white people representin' for smooth jazz.

P.S. I don't own any CW, btw, and am offended that faux_rillz didn't disabuse you people of that notion.

I've been known to play her Belly Of The Sun release. Very rustic.

A couple of years ago Krall played the Grammys and sang with Erykah Badu. Badu so completely outshone her vocally, artistically and stage presence wise that I felt truly bad for Ms Costello. Badu isn't even trying to sing jazz style and just clocked the broad in her own genre. Embarrassing.

    Hey JP,

Sorry I missed this thread the 1st time around, but I don't own ANY Cassandra Wilson CDs (she's grown & sexy, though!!!). My older brother has been trying to sell me on her for years, but I haven't signed on. Color me

Start w/ Travellin Miles for her current style, but the more adventerous stuff is her Brooklyn M-Base/Steve Coleman/experimaental joints pre - Blue Light Till Dawn. Check that JMT label stuff.

Id really like to cop some of that early/mid 80's Brooklyn Jazz on wax. I dont think they got pressed up.
