  • Could have picked all those joints up at Tower Records (RIP) before, cept maybe Vinyl Exchange. I used to love looking at Stress Magazine for their DJ playlist/charts. Mad NYC exclusives and ish.

I hate to plug my own blog, but since we're on the topic of old magazines, I'm sure some people would appreciate it :

Man, I've always loved magazines. The biggest regret is slinging out 99% of my amassed collection when I left home about 10 years back.

Early copies of 'The Source', 'Rap Sheet', 'Rap Pages' (those 'four elements' issues were amazing), 'Flavor' (that was a free mag in the US, but Tower Records used to charge for that in London)... and then the skate magazines too. I had every issue of Big Brother, most issues of Transworld from '86 onwards... BMX Plus, Freestylin', Homeboy Magazine... It genuinely pains me to think of them now.

The worst thing is that I gave a lot away - and the guy who took them then sold them on eBay.

    Still got the Playboys though.

Yo, thanks for plugging it! Nice blog, perfect for boring work days in front of the computer!! Respect!

  • i used to have a biz and we sold wax poetics, big daddy, tons of graff mags, fader, and we gave away vice. i still have a crate of all those mags. people would fiend for vice magazine!

it's funny, i just broke out all the old big daddys, and have been rereading them. i wish wax poetic would come out with a hard bound case (a la national geographic) to put your issues in. that would be quite nice.

  • [NERD ALERT: i still need a copy of issue 5 of Wax Poetics if anyone wants to offload one.:NERD ALERT] And Big Daddy was amazing --- ill take some of them off anyones hands if they dont want them any more. only got a few issues myself. What about the second coming of Big Daddy - Grandslam magazine.... it was egg-cellent. Did that find it's way over to the states for its short 4 issue life span?

I had every issue of Big Brother

I had almost every issue until Larry bought out the magazine. The cereal box issue, trip to hustler, the wide issue and the one with the weird cassette with the "ropers" were my fav's . Shit was a great video, still a skating classic #2 and boob were pretty bad. No one seems to realise thats were Jackass and CKY came from.
Big Brother magazine, porn and skating what more could a teenager want!

  • Did that find it's way over to the states for its short 4 issue life span?

NERD ALERT: Yeah ... I have all four. Excellent ... wish they'd kept it up.

ANOTHER NERD ALERT: I'd like a Wax Poetics Issue #2

  • Pretty sure I still have a few copies of UHB around my folks' house... at least, I hope I do

    ON THE GO!!!!

Earliest one I have is the one with KRS on the cover, and the interview with Cope inside. I think it was from 94, maybe 95.

Remember BeatDown? It was a newspaper style, and a few of the ego trip guys started there. I only have one issue of that though, which I think had the first ever interview with Funkmaster Flex in it.

I still have all my old issues of Thrasher, Transworld & Guitar World. Those were my shit growing up, I have hundreds of them, they have been in storage at my folk's place for ever & now I have too much vinyl to free up shelf place for mags at my place. Every 6 months my parents will quiz me on whether they can throw my mags out.

On The Go had a dope video magazine, too. Used to watch the one with Quest Love droppin topics and Black Thought freestylin'. And I think the Artifacts were on it, too. Man, that takes me back for a hot sec.

    Thanks !
Between my wife's collection and mine we have loads and loads of magazines, On The Go, Subculture, BAM, Vibe, Grand Royal, Stress, Urb, Fresh Yo, NME, Freestyle, Flavor... Most of it is at my parents, but I think I'll buy a scanner to my mom for her birthday !

That was definitley part of that magazine's downfall. I came in right around the last issue and then it was a wrap.

You mean the subculture with the Legends on the cover? I wrote some stuff for that one, too.

Yep. I interviewed Rock Steady for that one and did some other stuff I can't remember. JoJo had some crazy stories for real.
