groove spot rob. 40's something vegan guy who buys strictly for e bay. always gets to a record vendor and tries to bogart all the crates. once tried to sell me a george freeman record he got for 50 cents for 50 bucks about 5 minutes after he bought it, because of e bay. i have bought soem good stuff from him when he had a store, but he's def my arch nemisis while diggin.

on the flipside he stops looking after 7am, so if i get to the flea market at 10, i get all the late day scores.

  • Old Folks. I hit the salvos and goodwills near the crib and this particular area of the city features a lot of old folks with dope collections. Ive stroked up some nice conversations and even been to some of their houses. Representing the G.

That's gotta be rough. Luckily my nemesises all don't know jack about soul, moder, or even jazz for that matter. There is actually one guy who knows a lot about rock, psych, and privates. ICE GRILL.

    blonde ponytail greasehead...

At one time Fatback was my digging arch-nemesis. My and my friend Harry used to see him every Saturday morning at a local thrift store waiting for the doors to open. For a while we lied to him as to where we'd been earlier (the old RFK flea market) until he finally figured us out. We're friends now. I even helped DJ his wedding with another former arch-nemesis, Birdman, who we used to call "e-bay guy." Not sure where we got that from. The other DJ at Fatback's wedding was Secret Chimp who I first met waiting for a church book sale to start.
I predict you and blonde poytail greasehead will be best friends some day!

Man, you've got to post that crazy picture of you and Frank with Adolph!!

hahahaha. worst records evar that day. but i remember adolph set up the tv on the pavement and broke out the porn.

Yeah, I think I was the guy who dropped the whereabouts of RFK flea to ol Fatback. I just assumed he was up on it. Maybe Chimp broke it to him first though, only FB can say for sure. I think I was "eBay guy" because all would get after you all scooped me every Sat was the run off you left behind, which was only good for eBay(which I no longer deal with-for awhile I was hooked), although that was back when people would be bringing stuff out all day long and there were not as many vultures circling at 7am. No offense! Now I swing by once every few months.

The guy I used to dread seeing at the flea or a thrift was Michael Earle, who is now only seen at his store, Memory Lane....he would always scoop me. But we bonded over a copy of The Payback that I found in front of him and would NOT give up. That was years ago.

I didn't fuck with that spot at dawn until I finished grad school. It was good later. Thursdays were my favorite, though.

There was the retarded dude named Frank who used to rip records out my hands at the SA.

There was this other guy in Richmond that I used to see everywhere blowing up my spots. I was told the other day that he was arrested for sodomizing a minor and then committed suicide right after he got out of jail.

Mellowed out on the "nemesis" crap after making friends with more then a few over the years. Everyone's generally into different stuff, so it works out. Hopefully the hommie d***y is gonna pass me the Doris Duke and Sandra Phillips LPs on Canyon that he pulled from right under my nose. At least he promised me a good price, if he decides to sell.

I also got to witness firsthand the digging styles of some of the local "record" dudes and ladies I'm up against.

SIDE A: This morning dude was pulling every ohio players and michael henderson slingshot LP thinking it's a goldmine of soul/funk/jazz! Good for you homelsice, and yo, keep inspecting those dirt common LPs that you don't know/understand while I already pulled the Earth Disciples for $1 and 80+ more quality records of all genres this entire weekend while you were still in your pajamas. I also have **** more records to cop this coming week and weekend.

    B/W

    SIDE B:
    (keep dreaming, C*s**)

I flirted with this idea a few years
back, when I saw I could get OG film noirs on eBay
for $200 that have never been released on video -

then I found out the costs/effort
to store and maintain that shit is truly

There are a slew of book collectors in the East Bay who will buy records when they come across them and have zero musical appreciation whatsoever, and consistently act like dicks about "whose in line first" at a garage sale w/no early birds. Dudes perpetually sleep on records, so it's not competition, just Viagra-age grumpy dudes.

I live in the Albany, NY area. So you might run into me at Last Vestige.

  • Cool, I was just there a couple weeks ago, nice to (sorta) meet ya. I mentioned to Non we outta get a little Upstate Digger cookout together or something sometime. Right now I'm having sciatic nerve issues and can't really walk, let alone dig or party, but maybe in the spring after the cortisone shots kick in...

  • I'm always down for a diggin cookout!
