These are actually from as far back as lastweek, but the Barrington Levy is from todayand I was too lazy over the weekend to post:
Barrington Levy is a fucking monster album. Any pressing info would be more than appreciated - seems true early 80'spressing, Volcano label, "Made In Jamaica." Everyone hatts on Know, but his knowledge dropping on shit like this was peerless.Humble Gathering was a trade that took like 3 months to work out, with Re*d from In Yo*r Ear - ended up trading a metal 45 box filledwith indie & punk 45's at my record swap last week. Got the Toby Benfrom him, too, and although not a rare or sought after album, turnedout to be pretty good hippie folk-pop, mildly psychedelic at points,on the soul label Venture and with a band including Joe Sample, Wilton Felder, and Paul Humphries.I hope people don't consider that Black Heat a TFT, cause it's a burner. Both albums I have by them have a pretty unique and solid sound, andI think this one is even better than the first.Pepsi set has a James Brown jingle, which turned out to befairly tepid, only because the jingle, done with the same lyricsbut in different styles by different artists, is really awful.Still, some nice horn charts on it. I had high hopes for the Argentversion, but it turned out to be painfully bad.Ok, I admit - I started this thread just hoping G**d Records NYCwould floss the results of the Queens excavation today...Triplets away!

it was unpriced stashed away behind the counter -
although if I threw $100 at him he might have
given it up - but I initially traded him an album
I know he wanted and wanted to do the rest cash,
but he really wanted to do it all-trade, which was cool with me.
He told me the person he got it from told him it was
a $200 record, and I had to explain to him that if I
wanted to be patient, I could get it on the Bay for $50,
but that I was willing to trade heavily for it to save
myself the trouble. I think the 45's he got at my swap totalled
out to around $50 with what I had them priced at, so I was
happy.
I just coped that Barrington Levy last week, ORG JA Volcano as well.
I think there was a UK version also. Serious Co-sign it is one of his
best for sure. Barrington is one of my all-time favs.
Now if I could only track down that Shaolin Temple joint...
only had a Jamaican release on vinyl.

I have this one and reallyreally like it:
I'm always on the lookout for more Barrington Levy stuff.
by the way, is it pronounced Lev-ee or Lee-vee or Lee-vi?
And I don't think black heat is a TFT at all, I have the other album (black and red cover) and find it quite listenable.
coughs

wattup j? gottam cuzin
Poor Man Style is Killer!
I also recommend:
Robin Hood
Englishman
and Bounty Hunter.
It's funny you asked about the pronunciation of his name
I say Lev-ee, but I think maybe I used to pronounce it
Lee-vee.
Weird right?
Another good bunch of finds this week.
The Earl Zero 12" is wicked, nice tune on the Real Rock Rhythm.
The Bob Andy 7" is a long time want, that came in from the UK
this week. BEST TUNE EVAR!
I wouldn't say stupid.
So, you are basically saying that this is another of the now infamous Paycheck's FAKE FINDS?
I totally agree.
JLR look what you have done. Sewn doubt in the minds of tender young strutters. Even Aleit sold me out. That's the last time I let you look at my new collections first, Aleit.
You guys suck. I'm taking my toys and going home.
Nope Fred, on my mother's good name those were all purchased yesterday.
Dear lurkers, newbies, etc: this is just a JOKE. Jonny is a serious store owner/dealer, with excellent reputation in the record game. His finds are not FAKE.
This is not the real JLR, he has been abducted and someone else is using his account. The truth is out there.
tommie young - do you still feel on soul power
nina simone - i put a spell on you on philips
gloria lynne - a very gentle sound on mercury
gloria scott - what am i gonna do on casablanca
john gary williams - s/t on stax
FAKE JLR
The real question is...
what dead strutters collection is that?
