The Dude: Walter, ya know, it's Smokey, so his toe slipped over the line a little, big deal. It's just a game, man.

Walter Sobchak: Dude, this is a league game, this determines who enters the next round robin. Am I wrong? Am I wrong?

Smokey: Yeah, but I wasn't over. Gimme the marker Dude, I'm marking it 8.

Walter Sobchak: [pulls out a gun] Smokey, my friend, you are entering a world of pain.

    The Dude: Walter...

Walter Sobchak: You mark that frame an 8, and you're entering a world of pain.

    Smokey: I'm not...

Walter Sobchak: A world of pain.

    Smokey: Dude, he's your partner...

Walter Sobchak: [shouting] Has the whole world gone crazy? Am I the only one around here who gives a shit about the rules? Mark it zero!

The Dude: They're calling the cops, put the piece away.

    Walter Sobchak: Mark it zero!
    [points gun in Smokey's face]

    The Dude: Walter...

Walter Sobchak: [shouting] You think I'm fucking around here? Mark it zero!

Smokey: All right, it's fucking zero. Are you happy, you crazy fuck?

Walter Sobchak: ...It's a league game, Smokey.

This movie was majorly panned when it came out. I remember loving it in the theater and not understanding why it wasn't getting props. It was so obviously genius. Plus, there is much music nerdery therein. How about the eagles rant in the taxi. Unbelievable.

Same as Starsky and Hutch and Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law: the Almighty Ford Torino.

Well, I know that's the name of the song, but I was looking for the Mancini LP it first appeared on. Thanks to a google pointer to O-Dub's blog, I just found out it was "Mr. Lucky Goes Latin".

    The Dude: These are, uh...
Brandt: Oh, those are Mr Lebowski's children, so to speak.
    The Dude: Different mothers, huh?
    Brandt: No.
The Dude: Racially he's pretty cool?
Brandt: [laughs] They're not literally his children. They're the Little Lebowski Urban Achievers...

    Another trivia question:

We see the Dude bowl how many times in the film?

    a) 3
    b) 1
    c) 2
    d) 0

  • three pages of comments and not one mention of creedence tapes??

The Dude: Do you find them much, these, stolen cars?
Younger Cop: Sometimes. Wouldn't hold out much hope for the tape deck though.
    Older Cop: Or the Creedence.

    He stretches. he never bowls.

  • "Just because we're berieved doesn't make us fucking Saps!"

"Is there a Ralph's around here?"

Great thread. Birdman, please do post the pics.

I learned in this thread that the Dude has dolphins on his checks. Awesome.

  • anyone ever hear about the planned Jesus Quintana spinoff movie??

Latest is a comment made by the Coens in the July 2004 issue of Empire magazine: "John [Turturro] wants to do it. We could call it The Passion of the Jesus, so now would be a good time.

I have long held that like the Phillip Marlowe books that the film is in homage to, the main characters(and certainly some of the brief ones as well) from the Big Lebowski are strong enough to base more adventures on. While it could easily be a huge dissapointment, another episode in the Dude's and Walter's life could be fun. 2 hours of The Jesus....the mind reels.

interesting article comparing lebowski to buddah
    http://metaphilm.com/philm.php?id=362_0_2_0_M

oh man i just remembered another favorite part, when the porn business guy jots down a note on his notepad while talking on the phone. when he goes to the other room, lebowski shades in the notepad in pencil to reveal what the message was..and its a naked dude..and he keeps the paper in his wallet only to be discovered by that sherrif dude that kicks his ass. awesome.

  • great Halloween costume idea #1-

did anybody buy or download the soundtrack?
not one Credence song on it.
i wish they'd have put The Monks on there, too.

  • I've seen that movie at least 20 times and I still notice new things almost every time I watch it.

    favorite subtle lebowski moments:

Dude slapping the roof of his car to Bad Moon (this is pretty much mandatory if this song comes on and you are in a car)

Eating In & Out Burger to Oye Como Va after getting his window smashed out (I kill YOUR fucking car man!!!!)

    Autobahn

Man hat would be so fucking awesome!!

  • I bought the "unofficial soundtrack" on the Lebowski Fest site a few years back.
Here are the links. Pardon the various glitches & skips as this has been played to death. The soundbites & what-have-yous more than make up for it. If you want
a thorough copy, you can probably still get one for 5 bones or clams, to use the parlance of our times. Enjoy!

    well, that's fucking interesting.

  • Interesting comparison of The Dude and Buddha.

The Dude was the real nihilist in the movie, and not the kidnappers, as he doesn't really care about or believe in anything

not true, he gives a shit when he thinks Bunny is going to get killed after Walter throws his dirty undies out of the car instead of the loot....
