Hot Rats is good, but yeah, otherwise, I don't get the allure.

oh but the allure is definitely coppable.

Hey, whatever floats your boat. I've tried to get into the best of both genres and it's just not my thing.

Animal Collective- one of the worst live shows i've ever seen
    Joanna Newsom- unlistenable voice
Juelz Santana- dude is a terrible rapper. come on now.

You clearly have never seen Fugazi live. Animal Collective have incredible live nights and some not so good ones but people tend to get very reactionary about their shows. Give them another chance. I don't ride for Joanna Newsom but her voice is unique and I give her respect for that. And I actually like Juelz, in fact, I think he's spectacular (yes!).

As for Fugazi and seeing them live,

I'll agree that live they are better than on album,
but also seeing them live can be more like going to
Sunday School and getting a sermon from the preacher
than going to a rock 'n roll show. I mean, yeah, we
get it Ian - you don't like "slam dancing."

"Annie Got Hot Pants Power" - Syl Johnson[/b]
I love me some Syl, and I love soul songs about hot pants, but what the hell is the appeal of this tune? Doesn't go nowhere, yet connoisseurs of older soul think this is Syl's shining moment - WTF??

I didn't know it was so hyped. It's not a bad tune, but it's not as good as the title might suggest, and Syl has so many better tunes as well.

Hey, just like a good record, sometimes the best threads gotta get "reissued!"

I never understood the reasoning behind their 'no moshing' rule. Seriously, what gives?

It was a response to the number of (primarily) women who were complaining about idiot (primarily) dudes bashing them in the head with their elbows during shows... and in general hyper-masculine dudes taking over shows and turning them into wrestling matches that detract from everybody's else's experience.

Meatheads who didn't care about the music would ruin the show for everyone else. Honestly, even if Ian could get schoolteacher-ish and obnoxious, that shit was really annoying.

I almost slugged an over-40 year old 'slam dancer' at a Radio Birdman show in Baltimore this past Saturday. It would have been fine if he wasn't completely drunk, oblivious to the fact that he was 'moshing' alone, or if it was his way of actually dancing. He was in fact preventing others from dancing or getting into the show at all.

'Moshing' past the age of 25 may be an archetypal NAGL.

The single time I saw Fugazi was at a free Fort Reno show here in DC. Ian didn't hardly say 2 words to the crowd, and I was waiting for one of his legendary crowd lectures....alas, nothing.

I slam danced once, I was 16...it was at a Rednecks In Pain show...ended up dislocating my kneecap...it was a chronic thing with my knee, I had surgery on it shortly thereafter...

A lesson I learned the hard way, when I was around 27 -
I went to see the band Avail, whose album I was into but
none of my friends were or would go with me, so I went
alone. I think I was at least 8 years older than the next
youngest person there. When the band started ripping into
their songs, I went into my natural slammin' routine. At
some point I realized I was surrounded by horrified kids,
all around 17 years old, looking at me like I was from another
universe. I slinked to the back of the crowd and watched in
silence, as the realities of "getting old" settled in.

    ARTIST'S REPRESENTATION:

  • "Annie Got Hot Pants Power" - Syl Johnson[/b]
I love me some Syl, and I love soul songs about hot pants, but what the hell is the appeal of this tune? Doesn't go nowhere, yet connoisseurs of older soul think this is Syl's shining moment - WTF??

Was trying to find / listen to this one (as I also like most Syl stuff), but all I came across was Bootsey-X's Lovemasters cover. That, I can attest, is indeed godawful.

I like most music in general, and can find something interesting / redeeming.

    The following are exceptions:

    1) I do not like smarty-pants or clever stuff [/b] like Common or Ween. Annoying!!

    2) To revisit the issue, I think Amy Winehouse [/b]is atrocious! I assume I'm just being gullible though, and all the people who claimed to like her earlier were just making a joke, and I didn't pick up on it, right?

    3) I also do not like precious twee doody like most indie rock[/b], and their female singer songwriter counterparts (Too many indie rockers to mentions, I agree with the disliker of Joanna Newsom, and will add Feist - that typa thing.)

    4) There is not one Rolling Stones[/b] song I like.

    That's all.

ever wanted to know what the one guy from franz ferdinand thinks of 'marquee moon'?
here's a bunch of unimportant musicians talking about an album they think is overrated:

    http://music.guardian.co.uk/rock/story/0,,2102991,00.html

i do like what that art brut guy says about stone roses even though i don't like his band. "They're totally overrated. Plus they covered Scarborough Fair. I don't understand why people still play their music in nightclubs - it makes me really angry."

peter hook doesn't like trout mask replica. shocker
