hip-hop died once samples had to be cleared.

which is why the majority of the good shit out these days is on the more underground labels that don't clear samples.

ha ha ha ha ha ha!

    SON.

Samples had to be cleared as early as 1990 if not before. Are you discounting all hip-hop since then?

...Never mind that the earliest rap recordings had no samples.

i'm saying.. the whole concept of being able to take anything you wanted from a record got pretty much bashed. if the original composers didn't want to allow it to be used on a hip-hop album, it wouldn't get released... in some cases disencouraging producers to use shit they would have otherwise. and yeah... 1989 to be exact (is when sampling laws started)... hiphop for me really went downhill about 1995 with the lack of samples.. being replaced with cheezy korg sounds.

being replaced with cheezy korg sounds.

why is sampling someone playing a synth any different than playing one?

    let alone better?

why is playing a synth different from sampling one?

People who can't deal with keyboards need to stop listening to rap as it is 2006.

Hip-Hop is back where I want it. 808 bass with sparse samples, funny lyrics and keyboards a la Rodney-O & Joe Cooley.

Hip hop died because I killed it. With my bare hands and Special Forces training. I am a hired assassin. I cannot tell you who hired me. I know you want to know, but my clients pay top dollar to remain anonymous.

    jewish mass media moguls.

Who told you about that? I'm going to have report you to the ZOG. They'll come for you in your sleep, blast klezmer, and break your hiphop vinyl.

I think for some people, hip-hop/rap dies because the subject matter doesn't change too much, and people grow out of it. This can happen with any type of music, however.

I forgot to mention samples scratched in.

If hip-hop is dead to you then move on. We don't need you.

Hip-Hop died when those fake rappers Sugarhill Gang released their 12".

Or when the Furious 5 made ballads.

    You guys are crazy
Hip Hop's not dead. There are approx. 15, 376 !!! Hip Hop groups on myspace right NOW.
That doesnt even include the ones who catergorize themselves as 'hyphy'.
Just an unscientific survey I conducted, add in a little sarcasm, and a splash of personal opinion but I still think its out there somewhere either way.
